Re: South - North - East on a Yezdi D250 Classic

Day 10:
Started from Delhi at 3 pm and headed towards Varansi. Plan to ride all though the night.
It was tiring, but I pushed myself. Crossed Agra, Kanpur and Allahabad to reach Varanasi...

Re: South - North - East on a Yezdi D250 Classic

Day 11:
After all night ride, only to stop for refueling, reached Varanasi at around 7. Booked at a hotel near Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Took shower, had a warm glass of milk and went to bed. Slept for long. Then wake up, called by old acquaintance (majhi) and headed towards the Ghat. On way back, visited Kashi Vishwanath Mandhir and offered Puja.

Next day, to start early and reach Home...)))

I am sorry for not posting the technical updates. I think, I still have the dairy back home with all the details, but its already been years. Anyway, always next time.

Wow!
That is one good-looking and amazingly maintained Yezdi Classic 250. I used to own a Yezdi Classic 250 back in my college days but was never able to maintain like this.

By the way, nice write-up on your trip. Thanks for sharing.

You said it man! The people you meet on the road when you are solo on 2-wheels are amazing. By far the majority are kind, helpful, lovely people. It's when you get back to the cities do you see the worst of humanity's traits.

That Delhi-Varanasi route is lovely. Though a boring NH for the most part, the feel of being connected with the legendary, historical Grand Trunk Road is always present. I really enjoyed that part when I did it in '08.

I remember so many great conversations with people on the road. Total strangers when they walk up to you seeing the bike and luggage, and you leave them as friends.

I also feel sad that this sort of enthusiast is precisely who the bike manufacturers are leaving behind. I remember a great conversation with an enthusiast in Orissa while I stopped to get an oil change. He proudly showed me his lovingly maintained Bullet and described with feeling how his faithful Bull had out run a gang of robbers who attempted to stop him and then tried to chase him while he was riding on the highway at night. A true ambassador for the brand. But I doubt that same guy will be able to buy a new machine from RE today, considering the way the prices have risen and the pathetic attitude of the dealers. Doubt RE will be able to support his loyal steed with the loving service care it needs, considering that their authorized stations kick up such a fuss to even handle my far more recent machine, citing a lack of spares. But such is life.

It's easier to meet and mingle with people on the road when you are a solo rider. A large flashy group, support vehicle in tow, all glitzy gear and bling, go pros and selfies, somehow doesn't have the same appeal. But that's what works these days and plays right into the manufacturer's PR. And of course, to each his own.

Great to see riders like you. Ride on!
