Re: Weekend Getaways from Hyderabad

Any one has any update about when NH7 is going to be ready completely? Or Is the National Highways Authority keeps updating about all the 4 lane work progress somewhere?

Today in Times, Hyd there is an article that 11kms of road is laid everyday.

The NH-7 is from Varanasi to Kanyakumari. And not the entire NH-7 is to be 4-laned but only the part which falls under the N-S link. Which particular section are you talking about ?

Re: Weekend Getaways from Hyderabad

I'm looking for a quick weekend getaway to have some fun with my bike, and in the process, check out some new places as well. Any suggestions for places in and around secunderabad, within a radius of around 250kms? Hill stations would be welcome too. if you could suggest any places along good 4 lane NHs (NH 7 is a blast, or so I've heard), that would be great!

Hill stations around Hyderabad? Joking right? . But it is winter now and the weather should be decent in most places.
Anyway, you can go to Srisailam and check the forests.

If you can stretch, do check out Hamsaladeevi or Suryalanka beach. It is around 350 kms but this drive especially on a bike should be quite tiresome as you have to drive on the famous Vijayawada highway.

Or you can check out Warangal and the Ramappa temple there. It is a great place and one way the distance comes out to be 150 kms odd.

NH7 is a blast. On this route, you can go to Mantralayam temple and spend the night there (One must spend night at the place and should not come back the same day after visiting the place). This is around 250 kms from Hyderabad.

Yeah I'll keep that in mind. And, is there anything worth seeing in Nizamabad? Of course, the driving pleasure will more than make up for absence of good tourist spots, but if at all there is anything to be seen there, all the more merrier

Re: Weekend Getaways from Hyderabad

I am not sure if anyone has talked about Bidar in this thread. Pardon me if already done.

It has an amazing fort - one of the largest in the country - and lot of heritage places to see around. Well maintained by ASI. It is close to Hyderabad.

Jungle lodges, pioneers in Eco tourism in Karnataka have opened Balck Buck resort in Bidar recently.

Thank you sir. I thought so much but did not have patience to dig deep.

Neverthless, the sad part is Bidar is not marketed well. It is given step motherly treatment from Karnataka tourism. It should actually be a part of Hyderabad circuit but for that to be done, both governments have to collloborate which is too much to expect.

AFAIK,they are not allowed. There is/was a big board at the entry at Gachibowli which read Two/Three Wheelers Not Allowed. Not sure if they have taken it down now.

True that Bikes are not allowed on the ORR but I've seen many people take it on the ORR. I too once had a ride on the ORR on my Royal Enfield Classic 350. Even though it is not allowed as of now, people are taking it on the ORR. If you really wish to take your bike on the ORR, then take a service road at Nanakramguda and then get on to the ORR at Narsingi. I've seen cops positioned at Gachibowli Toll Gate stopping bikers from getting on to the ORR. However, it should not be a problem getting on to the ORR. Even if you get on the ORR, stick to the left most lane of the ORR and complete your running in.

All said and done, I would advice you to avoid taking your bike on the ORR as ORR is not meant for Bikes. Better stick to service roads and enjoy the ride there. These run parallely to the ORR and are good roads to ride on.
