Hello Vinit,
Tell me how can I help you to plan the trip?
Chandigarh is overall a peaceful place not too much traffic usually. Frankly speaking not much to see just the Iconic lake & open hand monument and oh yeah you will get to see 1st planned city of India by Mr. Le Corbusier (Chandigarh itself).
Punjab is well connected by 2 lane roads but get ready to pay some serious tolls these tolls are either under ’NHAI’ or ‘Rohan Rajdeep’. Uhh..First place that comes into mind when one visit Punjab is Amritsar Sahib. If you are coming from Delhi then you can by-pass chandigarh and save time. Amritsar is famous for its heritage and delicious food. Amritsar has Golden Temple, Durgiana Temple, Jallian wala bagh and Retreat Ceremony at Wagah border (MUST VISIT). Did I tell you about the delicious food..hehe! Amritsar Kulcha, Sarso ka saag (Seasonal), chole bhature, and Lassi are worth to die for. Yeah I am a big foodie, all Punjabis are.
Patiala: Land of Rajas and Maharajas. It has famous Thapar University, Dukhan niwaran temple, kali temple, Sheesh mahal. Moti Mahal.
Ludhiana: This is cloth manufacturing hub of punjab. you ll get variety of clothes. cheap as well as good.
Bathinda: Damdama Sahib (Sikh Temple), Thermal power plant, Ranjit Sagar Dam (Very Beautiful)
Other Places worth mentioning: Anandpur Sahib (Sikh Temple), Virsat-e-khalsa (Museum about Punjab’s Culture and heritage), Naina Devi Temple, Mansa Devi temple & Bhakra Nangal Dam.
Places (HillStations) around Punjab worth mentioning: Dalhousie,Kasauli, Pinjore & Shimla,
Punjab & Chandigarh overall is a very safe place but then I am biased because I am from here. There are thumb rules that are followed in whole of India I think if you follow that then I don’t think you will have any problem. I would be happy to answer your queries should you have any.
Hope this helps to give you some Idea. Happy planning!
