I usually start at 4.00 am in the morning and reach Palakkad at around 11.00 with my breakfast stop at Salem around 7.00 - 7.30 . you will reach krishnagiri before day breaks. Advantage is that you will be able to sight the "gateways to hell" between krishnagiri and salem. From Salem it is more or less OK. Before 15-20 kms to Coimbatore, you can take the L&T bypass (left) to palakkad . this is my favorite stretch - visibility is in kilometers ( be careful about the Luna(tic)s and TVS mopeds )

After the last monsoon I heard that the road condition from Walayar is not good. Also, the traffic from Palakkad to Thrissur will be more that what you experience between coimbatore and palakkad.

Word of caution: do not consider the timelines given here (though conservative) as the benchmark and try reaching your destination within that time. Especially, if you are new to the road and not fully aware of the traffic patterns on the route, do not try high speeds

The best road from Gundulpet is via Sultan's Battery, Kalpetta, Calicut, Feroke, Edapal, Kuttipurama nd Kunnamkulam. At Kunnamkulam, turn off NH17 and go direct to Trissur.

Bangalore-Mysore 150 kms-Gundulpet 75-Sultan's Battery 60-Calicut 105-Edapal 80-Kunnamkulam 25-Trissur 35, totalling 540 kms.

As an earlier post indicated, there are many a threads discussing this.

Still, here you go with the shortest route ...

Take Bangalore-Mysore-Gudlepet-Gudalur-Nilambur-Shornur-Thirssur. As far as I know, this is the shortest and you should hit Trichur in 420 or so kms.

This is assuming that the Nadugani ghat section is repaired now (I saw a posting from aby.sam on this today).

Rex

I agree with Rex, going via Gundulpet-Gudalur-Nadugani-Nilambur is the shortest road to Trissur now that the Nilambur Ghat is repaired (has been intermittently open and shut due to landslides the last 3 months). But ensure that you drive through in daytime.

Folks. Nilambur-P'manna-Shornur-TCR seems to be the std way.

Please provide some tips on the route from Nilambur to Perinthalmanna.
The maps show 2 routes. One via Manjeri, Malappuram. The other via Thuvvur closer to the railway line.

Which would be a better option?

Thanks

Ravi

Any update on Gudalut-Nadugani-Nilambur Road

Anybody has first-hand/reliable information about the Gudalur-Nilambur road? Is it open now? How is the road condition?

We're starting on 20th and do not want to get into the situation we landed up in late October (we had to backtrack and travel via Thamarassery ghat section and Calicut).

Regards
Rex

Rex,
Gudalur-Nilambur road is open now. But the road stretch in and around Gudalur town is very bad.
