Hi Peeps

I need to be going from Salem to Bhavani,then onto Trichy and then reach Coimbatore by evening.

Salem-Bhavani is quite straight forward via the NH544.No doubts on that.

However which would be the fastest route and approximate time that I need to budget for the below sectors:

1.Bhavani - Trichy

2.Trichy-Peelamedu(CBE)

Bhavani to Trichy

1) Shortest route would be Bhavani - Tiruchengode - Namakkal - Thottiyam - Musiri - Utthamar Koil - Trichy. Distance of approximately 160 Km and travel time of approximately three and half hours.

2) Alternatively a faster route is to drive through Bhavani - Tiruchengode - Paramathi and join NH44, drive straight till Karur at the Karur by pass roundabout join NH81 and drive all the way to Trichy. Distance of about 175 Kms and travel time will be reduced due to good highways throughout.

Trichy to Peelamedu(CBE)

Hit NH81 from Trichy and it is smooth sailing till Sulur through Karur - Vellakoil - Kangayam - Palladam. At Sulur take diversion from NH81 to reach Peelamedu. Distance of about 225 Km and travel time of four hours approximately.

On the time front how will this route compare with Salem-Namakkal-Trichy (60Km more) ? Or even Salem-Namakkal-Karur-Trichy (100Km more) ?

For the kannanur to Trichy road, there is a short cut available with almost zero traffic. Road diverts from Kannanur bus stop and that road has no diversions till you reach the Trichy road (somewhere before Pagalavadi)

For Peelamedu, divert at Sulur to catch Avinashi road

SH are fairly good. So ideally 4-lane should not cut down a major portion of the time.

The joy of 4 lanes from Salem till Karur will be spoiled in Karur-Trichy stretch. Proper 2 lanes with sufficient space on either side exist only till Pettavaithalai and there after (30 kms) it is narrow with too many blind curves and unsettled road.

Not to forget the menace of sand trucks for the entire stretch.

Well Said. The last stretch from Pettavaithalai to Trichy is pretty narrow with sharp and blind curves. Poses a good challenge for the man and machine though, especially during night time.

And there is heavy sand truck traffic menace is on the bank of the Kollidam river too, on the Thottiyam - Musiri - Trichy stretch, till No.1 Toll gate. So as suggested by Mr. Boss it is best to drive from Namakkal to Kannanur and join the Thuraiyur-Trichy main road to Trichy.

Thuraiyur-Kannanur-Pagavalvadi is a favourite of all Bangalore folks driving to Trichy.

If you are travelling from Thuraiyur to Trichy, there is no meaning to pass through Kannanur. Thuraiyur-Pagalavadi-Trichy will be the straight route (of-course with much better roads than Kannanur-Pagalavadi stretch)

Sorry typo at my end. I did mean the Kannanur-Pagavalvadi. Even I have taken it a couple of times.
