Folks, exploring a quick trip to Pondicherry. Google Maps suggesting two routes from with a 0500 start. Vehicle is my low-slung 330i.
  1. Yelahanka - Hebbal - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Tindivanam - Pondy with ~350 km & 5 hours
  2. Yelahanka - Devanahalli - STRR - Hoskote - Kolar - Chittoor - Ranipet - Gingee - Tindivanam - Pondy with ~400 km & 6 hours.
Which would be better? I don't mind the extra 50 km if it allows for a smoother trip with relatively less traffic. Further, where are the traffic congestion points, considering I will be passing a bunch of towns during the peak rush hour?

In case you choose 1st route, try taking Sarjapura road instead of approaching silk board for Hosur road. Cross Sarjapur and enter TN. There is one place Bagalur where you make a right for Hosur. This will save you attibele toll mess. But starting early to pass Sarjapur is desirable.

Just used this route and can attest the route is in great shape all throughout. The toll collection has not yet started. Really do not make sense to go Via Chittor unless you live around KR Puram or beyond in Bangalore. Stick to this route and you will keep smiling all the way.

Travelled to Pondicherry from Bangalore yesterday. Started at 7 AM and got stuck in the traffic big time near the Karnataka-TN border. It took me exactly 2 hours to cross the border!

Then there was another 40 mins Jam at Hosur due to Flyover construction. I thought that's the end of traffic and I can drive in a relaxed way all the pondi but how wrong I was!

Breakfast at Sarvana Bhavan (after the McD), was also crowded and they had run out of most of the items on the menu.

While there were no traffic jam after Krishnagiri toward Pondi, but It was like a long convey of vehicles towards Pondicherry. At one point in time I could see over 25 vehicles all traveling towards Pondicherry!

The roads were chocked and I could hardly get a patch of road where I could touch 100 on the speedo:Frustrati Finally arrived at 2 PM for a total travel time of 7 hours the longest and I didn't dare to venture out towards the promenade beach as am pretty sure it would be chocked completely.

I started wondering how it will be on sunday going back to bangalore with vehicles from Kerala, from Chennai and Pondicherry all trying to enter the City. I have now decided to head back to Bangalore tomorrow (saturday) to avoid getting stuck in the mad traffic

In anticipation of this traffic you should have tried the Old Madras road to Chitoor and via Katpadi-Vellore-Arcot

I stay on Kanakapura Road, so travelling to old madras road would have cost me another hour I guess as a friend of mine travelling to airport at 6 in the morning reported heavy traffic at CBD area and the corporation circle took some time to cross

This is the story of any long weekend, this time it’s 4 days and is kind of expected.

Part of the CBD traffic can be attributed
to huge shopping crowds at KR Market for the Varamahalakshmi festival. I saw this on Wednesday and Thursday this week even at 6 in the morning. On Thursday, there were vehicles parked on the Mysore Road flyover, including 2 wheelers, cars and even goods autos and mini trucks!

How bad are the rumble strips after Hosur until Shoolagiri
I saw multiple threads about it, but not sure if it's manageable in a low GC sedan

Last month when I visited pondi, those rumble strips were a pain as the spacing between each individual strip is more but that space was like a dug up pot hole making it very uncomfortable to cross

This time, those space between the individual streps have been filled up so they are more bearable.

But the flyover constructions are a pain till krishnagiri

I thought Hosur already has so many flyovers in place, not sure why some more are needed.
If you ask a localite in Hosur, they really hate these flyovers since they have to traverse very long distance just to reach a nearby market or temple.

And whenever I visit my In-laws, I tend to miss the proper Service lane and end up going round about for many Kms.

Yes, the construction of flyovers is between Hosur-Krishnagiri and if I remember correctly there are 5 of them that are under construction.

Hi I'm going to Pondicherry from Hebbal on Sunday morning. Planning to leave at 7am. Have to pick up a friend at Kanakapura road. So planning to go via NICE road- Hosur-Krishnagiri-Thiruvannamalai route. Will plan the return route (Tuesday afternoon) depending on the onward trip experience.

I completed a 3 day trip from Bangalore to Pondicherry yesterday. I found that the Krishnagiri- Tiruvannamalai route is good. There are 5 diversions for flyover construction between Hosur and Krishnagiri. But from Krishnagiri, it's a new 2 lane road. Well made. With bypasses for all villages and towns. This saves a lot of time. Toll booths are built but as of now no toll collection yet.

The other route through Chittoor is mostly 4 lane. But it takes 1 hour more in that route. We left bangalore on Sunday morning. And we came back on Tuesday evening. Hardly any traffic. It was a pleasant and memorable journey.

Wonder how it would be in Saturday or Sunday evenings, when the usual weekend traffic is in full flow.

I was stuck after hosur for close to 30+ mins (near the final flyover deviation) last time i travelled :Frustrati

Three toll booths to become operational between Tindivanam and Krishnagiri according NHAI notifications as reported by Tamil channels. Roughly ₹160 is expected to be the one way toll for the stretch between Krishnagiri and Tindivanam.
