But ya I am more interested in the local restaurants. CCD's are no fun on the highway, well CCD's are no fun generally but thats just me probably. The road side tapri's serve the best tea's, not to be missed.

So ya it sounds good, the earlier list and then :

Nr Kolar
Woodys

Nr Palamaner
pure veg restaurants

Nr Chitoor Tirupathi bypass
Nandi Plaza.

-Thanks

Hey Sportsmind,
I am travelling on the same dates as well. Lets see if we catch up somewhere at pondicherry. I would be in a Silver Baleno (KA Registration ending 2553) accompanied by a Black Swift DDis Number (KL Registration ending 5). In case we do not meet.. wish you a happy trip.

Hi Nileshch,

Haven't heard much in terms of any good SH or NH based feedback on the Krishnagiri to Tiruvannamalai route since it seems to be passing through villages. It is passable and not a route where you can constantly do 80 or 90+ kmph. I guess, i will stick to using the arcot <--> tindivanam route.

I once asked someone what is A2B ! That was my level of ignorance!
Hence I always make sure, every post at least is complete in itself!

There wouldn't be the very famous "A2B" on the Hoskote - Kolar route now would it ?

re: Bangalore - Pondicherry : Route Queries

Guys. Took the Tiruvanamalai route on my way to pondi and it resulted in numb behinds. Hopefully it will be a brilliant route once all the road work in done in another year or so.

Now my question is - which route should i take to go back to Bangalore. I will be starting by 2pm today or 3 maybe. Want a beautifully tarred road. Please let me know gurus. ASAP.

Pondicherry-Tindivanam-Vandavasi-Cheyyar-Arcot-Krishnagiri-Hosur-Bangalore
At Arcot you join the 4-lane.
Once you arrive at Tindivanam via the 4-lane, ask for college road bypass.
Here is the link:

re: Bangalore - Pondicherry : Route Queries

1> CV Raman Nagar(BLR)-Krishnagiri-Vellore-Vandavasi-Tindivanam-Pondicherry (380kms)

2> CV Raman Nagar(BLR)-Hoskote-Chittoor-Arcot-Vandavasi-Tindivanam-Pondicherry (356kms)

Google maps shows route 2 shorter by 24kms.

Around 8 months back, i had taken another route
3> (BLR- Karimangalam-harur-Tiruvannamalai-Tindivanam-Pondicherry) (358kms). Roads were good throughout then.

Can someone suggest which is the best option now from the 3 mentioned?

Since you are in CV Raman Nagar, would suggest the above. Take the route via Chitoor. That would be easy and convenient.
Just need to be careful on the stretch between Mulbagal-Arcot as its a 2-lane and traffic can heavy at times.

You also have ample break-points on the way.

Thanks man. Took your advice and reached back home without any sort of back ache. The route we took on our way to Pondi was horrible. It was better last year when we had gone to Pondi. In fact one of the potholes ended up damaging my friend's Ritz's bumper. Lucky for us this happened some 5 kms away from the Maruti showroom.

Hi all,

Thanks for answering my earlier queries. Just finished the trip over the long weekend to pondicherry and back to bangalore via the above mentioned route.

a few streches of pot holes and the rest of the roads are really good except that is a normal two way road.

regards,
Prashant

At least there is an option to bypass the Krishnagiri-Tiruvannamalai via Karimangalam/Morappur/Harur. But now I hear even post Tindivanam its bad (via Gingee)

But I also hear that Tiruvannamalai-Villupuram-Pondicherry is decent.
Not sure about it though.

re: Bangalore - Pondicherry : Route Queries

I always drive to my destinations but with Pondy, its a headache.
So, these days, I prefer the 3 tier AC train from YPR which leaves on Friday night and reaches saturday morning. Longer route but no stress off driving on those bad roads.

I have a one day job, this saturday at Pondy, so its train again for me !

The train departs sat night from pondy and reachs bangalore sunday morning

Garib Rath is good one for Pondy. The only problem its a weekly train.
And if one is planning to stay 2-3 days, its not possible to return and the train returns back the very next day.

Other wise its good option.

Thats right, I always take this train for my day trips. if I go with family for 2-3 days, then its my car.
Sometimes, I have even got down at Villupuram to take a bus to Pondy, as the train gets delayed there sometimes for want of signal/clearence etc lol

Any idea which routes the Bus take, KSRTC or SRS or Sharma ?
