Folks,

Any idea why I see more recommendation for Bangalore to Pondy via vellore, arcot? Google suggest below route, whats wrong with this one?

(2) Hosur->Krishnagiri->Chengam->Gingee-> Tindivanam->Puducherry

Also, any option for breakfast near Chengam? Any decent south indian place where we can get idly/vada/dosa?

No issues as such but a lot of folks have found the truck traffic to be high after Mulbagal where the 4L ends.

As per the last update I think Krishnagiri - Uthangarai stretch is not great and also 4L in progress in section around Chengam, which needs one to be careful. DO check the last few pages for updates from Suresh and others. Hence google showing Arcot as the default.

The reason is the following:

8-10 years back, the route you suggest (Krishnagiri-Chengam-Tiruvannamalai-Gingee-Tindivanam-Pondicherry) was the route which every on from Bangalore used to take.

Check out the first pages of this thread itself and you will find every one suggesting this 2-L NH 66 (old number)

As time progressed, this 2-L section went to tatters and meanwhile the GQ to Chennai came up well. It was easy to switch as you could clock similar times (in spite of an extra 60-70 km) , less fatigue due to 4-lane and more food options.

But as we speak NH66 finally standing back. Its been under repair for many years now. Lets see when it gets complete fully.

Can you please suggest an optimum route to Pondichery from Bangalore for a 4 PM start from South Bangalore? I would prefer to reach Pondicherry by atleast 9.30 PM.

Stick to the time and tested:

Bangalore-Krishnagiri-Arcot-Cheyyar-Vandavasi-Tindivanam-Pondicherry.

Keep it 6 to 6.5 hours to be realistic.
- Time taken to get out of BLR
- Time to cross Hosur
- 2-Lanes past Arcot at night.

2-lane roads have humps too at most villages. Please keep that in mind.

Try this route mentioned below , traversed both routes during the weekend.

Bangalore->Krishnagiri->Ambur->Vellore->Vandavasi->Tindivanam->pondicherry

The Krishnagiri->Chengam->Tiruvannamalai ->Gingee->Tindivanam->Pondicherry is not just worth it.

2. Are the roads 2 lane?
3. Are there enough eating joints in this route?
4. (Is Ambur the same as in Ambur Biriyani?)

Nope, I followed Cheyyar -> Arcot ->Vellore route.

I wanted most of the drive to be on the 6 lane highway and glad that I took this route compared to the Gingee route which was route for my onward jouney.

Road conditions are good, very comfortable journey. I did not focus too much on eateries. However I am sure I saw too many saravana bhavan’s . Re Ambur not sure 

Bangalore > Krishnagiri > Ambur > Vellor > vandavasi > Tindivanam > Puducherry

Option 3 365Km
Bangalore > Kola > Chitoor > Ranipet > vandavasi > Tindivanam > Puducherry
