I agree with that. I took this route last year, and the only issues are the mountain humps that one has to look out for. Also, near Bellary, road surface deteriorates, and turning onto NH63, one encounters average surfaces.

This is the outer ring road of Bellary. The road is fantastic but the only problem is the unmarked giant speed humps at crossings.

Agree. Was in Hampi during the first week of Nov.

Took the Bangalore - NH4 - Hiriyur - SH19 - Challakere - Hanagal - Kudligi (NH13) - Hospet route while going.

Hanagal to Kudligi is a single road which passes through many villages. This road had few bad stretches but acceptable. Kudligi to Hospet (NH13) was absolutely horrible with no signs of tar at many places and huge pot holes. Average speed was about 20-30 kmph.

While returning took the Hospet - Bellary(NH63) - Uravakonda - Kuderu - Ananthapur - NH7 - Bangalore.

Hospet to Bellary has few bad stretches with pot holes but can easily average at 50-60 kmph. After diverting from NH63 towards Uravakonda the road is bad for about 20 odd kms. After that can easily manage between 60-80 till Ananthapur.

All in all, the best road from Bangalore to Hampi currently is NH4 - SH19 - Bellary (NH63) - Hampi.

I agree with CNU. Whatever route you take to go to Hospet, avoid NH 13 strech between Chitradurga and Hospet. I was there on this road last week in my new Scorpio and it was misery to drive on it. Specailly at night.
It is also not a bad idea to reach Bellary via Hiriyur - Challakere and the on to Hospet. The road between Bellary - Hospet is not that bad. As CNU writes you can cover the distance in one and half hours comfortably.

Apologies to open a old thread.

I am planning to drive to Bangalore from Hampi tomorrow. I see 2 options, either the NH63-NH7 combination or NH13-NH4 combination.

I have a Linea and hence ground clearance issues are abound!!

Can some one pl suggest the better of the two alternatives or if there is any other option?

Thanks.

take NH4 up to chitradurga and NH13 to hospet

I did bellary earlier this year and got off NH4 at Hiriyur - fentastic road (hiriyur to bellary rd is also great (but no median and speed breakers near villages are to be watched out for)

NH13, I have read on this forum is very good as well - except when you approach hospet (may be last 10km).

Bellary-Hospet road is horrible, my cousin did that in a indicab earliy this year and was feeling sorry for the cab and the cab driver!

I'm also waiting to hear this.

I guess it will be Banglaore <NH4> Chitradurga <NH13> Hospet. Read somewhere that Bellary <> Hospote road condition is bad.

I am also interested to know the driving time for Bangalore <> Chitradurga <> Hospet.

NH4 up to chitradurga and NH13 to hospet is the best option!

Bellary - Hospet unless you are in a off roader or minig trucks its an absolute NO!

I had been to Daroji and Hampi just a fortnight back. The best combo is:

NH4 upto Hiriyur
SH19 from Hiriyur to Bellary outskirts (this is a fantastic, well marked, two laned road with sparse traffic. You can easily maintain good average speed. Total distance between Hiriyur to Bellary outskirts is 146 kms. Take this road and you'll not regret one bit!)

NH63 - from Bellary outskirts to Hospet (This stretch is not very good and you'll be travelling at 60-70 kph max)

From Hospet you can turn right and continue to Hampi.

For more details check this out:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ml#post2130905

You'll find in the above link many guys have taken this combo (NH4-SH19-NH63) and found it to be best under present circumstances. I agree NH63 is bad but the real bad stretch is between Guntakal and Bellary. Between Bellary and Hospet it is bad but not horrible.

Are there any hotels/breakpoints on the Hiriyur-Bellary SH?
That would be good to know.

No idea about this. The distance is hardly 145 Kms and the road is so good you'll definitely not want to stop

I don't remember seeing any hotels on the route except for some small shops. However you will pass through a town (not sure of the name - must be Hangal). However there are hotels in Hiriyur - however highway stuff may not be to everybody's liking.

please note - may be my earlier post needs a correction: I read on another thread posted on 15th Nov that NH13 is not good between Chitradurga & Hospet, however same is the route between Bellary to Hospet as well may be someone who has done both recently can comment.
