Hi guys we were planning to travel from Chennai to Bandipur in the upcoming week. Can you'll pls suggest a route to take/not take. What would the conditions of the road be? As i'm confused whether to take my 5 Series or Innova.

I think you can take the Chennai-Krishnagiri-Bangalore (bypass via NICE Road and exit at Mysore Road)-Mysore (bypass via the Ring Road)-Nanjangud-Gundlupet-Bandipur route

Depending on the day & time of start, Hosur-NICE Road-Mysore Road and then the route upto Mysore route could be painful.

Alternate route is Chennai-Krishnagiri-Thoppur-Mettur-Sathyamangalam--Hasanur (via Dhimbam ghat)-Chamarajanagar-Gundlupet-Bandipur

Much more scenic route but could be slower and if there's a truck breakdown/other traffic problem on Dhimbam it can slow you down even more.

On the car - possibly the Innova is a better choice due to higher GC ?

Route which NPV mentioned is good. Just to add, avoid Bangalore - Mysore section during weekends if possible.

Road conditions are good throughout. Budget 5 hours from Poonamalle to NICE road - Hosur road entry and another 4 hours from there till Bandipur.

Please replan your trip. Kabini dam is open and the Bandipur road is closed (according to news reports).

Yes, small section of Mysore - Nanjangaud section was submerged yesterday (today ?) due to river overflowing, however there is no traffic disruption.
It is a eight KM detour to cover that section as per reports.

Since your trip plan is next week, suggest you keep an eye for news on rains and decide. Things should be back to normal by then.

thanks guys, we did this trip last weekend, the roads were absolutely fine and thankfully we did not need to take any diversions. To add to all this the weather was just amazing

What route(s) did you take finally ?
Wondering if you did take the Dhimbam route ?

We took the regular NH7 route, bypassed blore using NICE and then took the mysore road exit. Barring the usual 2 wheeler menace (once u get onto the state highway from NICE road)it was a breeze.
