Bangalore - Chennai is known and you should take Kolar or Hosur route depending on time and day that you plan to leave Chennai.

To get to Belkal, you can either the take:

1. Twisty route - Nelamangala - CRpatna - HNpura - Shanivarasanthe - Somwarpete - Madikeri - Jalasoor - Bekal.
https://goo.gl/maps/VoLy9jiYfzu

2. Faster route - Nelamangala - Hassan - Sakleshpur - Subramanya - Jalasoor - Bekal. You will have to deal with the bad stretch between Sakleshpur & Gundya.
https://goo.gl/maps/Rv89jGcfxX12

Payyanur - Kollur: the usual via Udupi - Baindoor -Kollur. You will have to deal with the traffic on the route as I dont think you have any other viable alternative.

Kollur - Honnavar: again via Baindoor & Murudeshwar

Honnavar - Bangalore: Multiple options again

1. Tried & tested: Sagar - Shimoga - Arsikere - Tiptur - Tumkur - Bangalore. Depending on weekday vs weekend and time of the day, you might have deal with some moderate to heavy traffic in the Tarikere - Arsikere stretch

2. Slightly different: Sagar - Shimoga - Channagairi - Chitradurga - Bangalore. Check the Bangalore - Shimoga thread for latest updates on Shimoga - Channagiri - Chitradurga.

3. Adventurous: Sagar - siralkoppa - Hirekerurr - Rannebennur - Bangalore. Road conditions here - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...ml#post4119922

Are you planning to drive Chennai - Bekal in a single day? With family? More important to plan your pit stops etc. if you plan to cover coast to coast in a single day with family.

- Chennai to Kochi : Chenni - Salem (Krishnagiri or Ulundurpet)- Coimbatore - Pallakkad - Kochi (Constant updates available on roads and hotels en route)

- Kochi to Kasargod : This is the most fatigue inducing part of the drive
Kochi - Angamaly - Trichur - Exit before Choondal - Pannithadam (Kunnamkulam bypass) - Eddappal - Kuttipuram - Kottakal - Calicut bypass - Vadakara - Thalassery - Kannur - Nileshwar - Kasargode

Kasargod to Bangalore and return to chennai : Kasargode - Thaliparamba - Iritty - Virajpet - Gonikoppal - Hunsur - Mysore Bypass - Bangalore

Bangalore - Chennai : Nothing to mention.

I was thinking if avoiding Madikeri helps in any way? That was the reason I did not mention Madikeri option.

Choose based on time, you may not enjoy a late evening drive on Shiradi ghat!

From Madikeri you can also take the Somwarpet-Shanivarasanthe-Arkalgud-Holenarasipura-Channarayapatna route to join the Bangalore-Mangalore highway again (avoids Shiradi-Sakleshpur-Hassan).

Alternatively, you can take Madikeri-Kushalnagar-Hunsur-Mysore route

Mysore-Bangalore can be painful on weekends and holidays so you can also take Mysore-Bannur-Malavalli-Kanakapura to reach Bangalore.

Re: Bangalore - Bekal Fort (Kasargod) - Kabini : Route Queries

Wow.....any trip I plan, Team-BHP has a rout query thread open...Awesome!!!
I am planning a trip to Kasargod as follows during the Ramadan weekend - 24,25,26 June

Brookefield - Kunigal - Channarayapattana - Sakleshpur - Subramanya - Sullia - Kasargod - Avisa Beach Home

The idea is to have a pleasant drive, through greenery post Sakleshpur and spend a day at the Avisa Home (on the narrow stretch with Sea on one side and Backwaters on the other).

I am not a very fast driver and now have a used Santro after enjoying the Punto for some years (don't ask!!). This will be the first trip after a thorough servicing so will not be doing very high speeds.

Plan is is leave very early and cross Hassan bypass by sunrise (known roads) and go ahead in new roads with the Sun light available.

Is this a fair route? And Will leaving home (Brookefield) by 3 AM take me to Hassan by sunrise and in time for breakfast?

I have done Bangalore - Hassan on the bike with my wife but that was 6 AM start and all in broad daylight.

Suggestions and idea are requested

Regards,
Saurab

I can see on Google the place is close to Payannur.

In that case you should not do Hassan, but the Mysore Hunsur option,.

Bangalore - Mysore - Hunsur - Gonikoppal - Virajpet - Iritty - Taliparambha - Payannur - Avisa Beach House

Please correct me if I got wrong destination.

Re: Bangalore - Bekal Fort (Kasargod) - Kabini : Route Queries

Thanks Ampere. You got it right.
I was avoiding Mysore since in both my bike rides the Mysore road was quite busy with aggressive jokers behind the wheel. The Kanakapura road was much, much better.

Road till Hassan was very good and fast though.

So can I take your suggested route but use the Kanakapura road to reach Mysore bypass?

Thanks for your reply!!

Basically we are speaking south of Kasargod. So definitely Coorg option makes more sense.

And also since you start at 3, I think Mysore road should be OK.

Lovely!! Shall set the route and keep the offline map ready then.

No risks starting at 3 AM on this route right? It will be just me and my wife.

Thanks!

Drive sedately and be alert, just like you'd do during night drives. Most of the monstrous Speed breakers on this route are gone now, but every town has it's share of speed breakers but mostly manageable ones.
The only issue could be that you have hardly any options for breaks due to the early start. Most eateries till Mysore open between 6:30-7am by when you should be past Mysore. I'm not sure about options beyond Mysore, maybe Hunsur/Gonikoppal may have some local eateries.

Re: Bangalore - Bekal Fort (Kasargod) - Kabini : Route Queries

Thanks NPV.
Food can be carried like snacks et all. My main query was on safety.

From what I read, it seems OK to start at 3 AM from the Bangalore roads perspective. Also Mysore road seems safe enough at that hour.

So will take the suggested route and keep updating this thread.

Thanks to all once more !

You dont need to touch Virajpete while driving to Iritty or further.

The route is Bangalore - Mysore - Hunsur - Gonikoppal - Bittangala--Iritty - Taliparambha - Payannur.
