I have found the general standard of Etihad's service going down the drain over the past couple of years for now. At one stage they competed with Emirates. Now, well they are giving Air India a run for their money maybe.

Spent most of a day swimming and snorkeling on a gorgeous island last week. Full of people from several different nationalities, from all over the world. There were no dustbins anywhere and the signs clearly indicated that visitors were supposed to take their trash back with them.

Saw only two different family groups that left plastic bottles and coke cans behind. Could have been just a co-incidence, but both of those groups were speaking in Hindi.

(Of course, we picked up after them and disposed of the trash back on the mainland.)

By the way, I happened to visit Singapore Night safari on the 24th evening. Holiday season and Christmas eve meant that 80% visitors were our countrymen. Crowd was admittedly more unruly and louder than it was when I visited before, but not as bad as I expected. Pleasant surprise indeed.

Or perhaps I am so accustomed to expect the worst behaviour on seeing our Countrymen nowadays that any deviation surprises me.

I was on a Continental Airlines (defunct US airline) flight from Mumbai nonstop to the USA several years back and the cabin crew was randomly saying "Don't touch me" to various Indians that she served. Not that any of them I saw had laid a finger on her at that point but she must surely have had some bad experiences to react in this manner. Quite upsetting really.

In 1988, was returning from Bangkok to Mumbai on a Cathay flight with no male steward. Was awful, drunk passengers thinking all oriental women come from Patpong and were "goosing" them, a couple of minor fights on board - was pretty sad.

Again, last month in Bangkok, there was a body massage place opposite, observed a bunch of Indians go up, and put their hands around the ladies and call them darling and take selfies.

Next day, to kill time before getting to the airport, most of us go for a foot massage, they were pretty cynical, but we all behaved decently and tipped them well. They were quite astounded.
