I had to do a quick dash and back from Eastern Bangalore to Southern Chennai. Onwards, I took the Chittoor Ranipet route and I was redirected at the AP-TN border through some mud roads, water wading etc. Lost 30-45 minutes. Horrendous how adhoc that diversion was.

ON the return I took the Gudiyattam-Palamaner route and I did a door to door Nanganallur to Whitefield in 6 hours. Also on the return leg, Sriperumbudur to Kanchipuram was more manageable ( less diversions, and more 3 lane stretches than the onward journey).

Overall - one ward - apathetic. Maybe folks are just waiting for the new eway. Until then it's VB or Shatabdi for folks preferring comfort.

You should have done: Chitoor-Ponnai-Ranipet. That is much better.

Even for this Google says 90 mins for 60km!

How is the road condition between Gudiyattam and Palamner? Is it worth taking this forest route?
I have taken this route few years ago and roads inside AP wasn't great. Just ok. TN side was better but traffic gets dense near Gudiyattam.
Few years ago there was an overbridge or underpass construction at the junction near Gudiyattam Post office. Is it complete now? Thanks in advance.

When I came back from Chennai to Bangalore on 7th, there were no diversions at the border near Bommasamudram railway crossing. Vehicles were allowed both directions on the narrow road. Looks like diversions are being implemented there dynamically based on the traffic at a given time.

I'm planning to drive to BLR from Chennai, Alwarpet on the 14th early morning, by 4 am. What's the best route to reach Indira Nagar, BLR? G Maps says Chitoor route. Pl suggest

If you have to reach Indira Nagar, Chittoor Route is better. Road condition is good and You will avoid major portion of city drive.

If you are starting at 4 AM, you should reach Mulbhagal for a nice breakfast. Be mindful that you wont find many options for breakfast between Ranipet and Mulbhagal unless you want to detour into towns.

For Indira Nagar destination, Chittoor route is the best. Go with that and read through Bangalore-Chennai via Chittoor thread for latest updates.

I have to travel to Chennai by car and I have 2 options - go via Tirupattur - Vellore - Chennai or via Tiruvannamalai - Tindivanam - Chennai.

Last when I travelled via Vellore, there were too many flyover constructions and road work. Is it still the same case? The Tiruvannamalai route crosses many state highways/rural areas so would not prefer unless the condition of roads in Vellore route is worse

Thanks in advance!

'Take diversions' remains in the Vellore-Kanchipuram-Chennai stretch, but still I'd suggest to go ahead in this route, since Thiruvannamalai-Tindivanam route goes through lot of state highways with some gridlocks in between, would suggest this route only if your destination point in Chennai is around Vandaloor or Perungulathur.

Explore below thread, this will give you some latest updates

It is good throughout. However, negotiating the Gudiyattam area + Pallikonda area will cost you some time. Those 15 kms will take 30 minutes due to traffic. Otherwise, the road/surface itself is in top condition in both AP and TN. The added bonus of course is the salubrious forest weather and eye-pleasing greenery (except in summers, when it will be dry). Avoid taking it if late evenings ( > 7pm ) due to no help at hand if your vehicle breaks down and occasional problems with drunkards manning the road at some points late night.

Thanks, Ampere. Yes that option didn't strike me, and by the time I started regretting I had gotten quite far on that stretch, so just decided to carry on on the same route. Good to hear from you, hope you doing great!

Say if I start from Yelahanka around 4 PM in the evening, assuming I reach Palamaneru around 5:40 PM, can I take Gudiyattam road at that time? How much time would it take to join the Krishnagiri-Chennai highway from Palamaneru if I take this road?

Quick answer is a big NO.
The ghat section is desolate even in day time. For this route to work, you should be in Gudiyattam by 5.30pm. Which means enter Palamner not later than 4.30pm.

Thanks for the info. I have a plan to go to Chennai in this month end. If at all I drive, I could start in the evening only, so I will better take Chittoor - Katpadi -Vellore route. My destination this time could be Mylapore. So, which route is better as I will be reaching in night time ?

Yelahanka to Palamaneru will be easily 2.30 hrs (could be more based on diversions on the way - Narasapura, Mulbagal and Nangali). Since you are starting from Yelahanka, the route you mentioned would be the shortest and easiest.
From Vellore, continue to Sriperumpudur, Vanagaram, Koyambedu (Follow Google maps suggestion at that point of time) to your destination
