Guys

All this hassle for 60rs and close to 20 minutes of time. I think you guys are making it complicated.

Between Time, money and toll i chose time and will stick to the highways and save time as well worry of scrapping and detouring. Just my thought.

True. But I wanted to try to see how scenic the route is rather than for saving money. When you keep traveling between Bangalore and chennai so often these routes just make the trip a little more exciting when you have time and not in a hurry.

Did Bangalore - Krishnagiri route on Saturday morning. Found that many deviations have come up after Hosur. Also one side of road (lane towards Bangalore) is closed between Shoolagiri and Hosur and both up and down traffic passes through same side.
They have got temporary median made with help of GI pipes and concrete as was done in Vellore- Krishnagiri route couple of months back.
However saw a huge line of vehicles behind each truck due to this, and this was around 8AM on a Saturday. Don't know how it will be on a Sunday evening. Felt number of deviations have increased significantly since I traveled last time on this road on Aug 20th.

Early this week, made a roundtrip to Chennai and back via Chittoor. The route was just fantastic, except for the slightly bad patch on Mulbagal by-pass. I could easily make it in 5.30hrs from Whitefield at 11 am to RA Puram, with a 30 min lunch break at Ranipet. At a sedate 90-100 km/hr, this is a very good timing. I did not bother about the detours of the ongoing discussion as it has been a while since I traveled on this route and I just wanted to try the direct route first. On return, I started at 6pm from OMahabRoad and reached home by 12am, again with a 30min dinner break at Kanchipuram. The night drive was also enjoyable as there wasn't too much traffic and well laid 2 lanes are always a fun to drive versus the boring 4 lanes IMHO!

This is perhaps the first right after the toll both. Cannot miss this road. This is to me the fastest route to Bangalore through OMR.

I avoided Wallajah, Ranipet taffic.

Another important update to add is that the sun light falls beautifully between the trees and the morning image in this route is very pleasing.

Roads from Gudiyatham for first 8kms is two lane. For next 2 kms becomes 1.2 lanes. Then the forest reserve starts and you drive through a small mountain on some not bad roads(Actually very decent roads). This extends for another 8-10 kms.

The plains after the second check post is mildly wider than single lane with good shoulders which is getting build in some places as well.

Lots of scope to stop and take pictures :)

Hi,
Pls guide me on this route.
I plan to drive down on 28/9.

I will drive down this Friday to Bangalore. Will start around 5:30PM from Thoraipakkam. This means i would reach Pallikonda around 8-8:30PM. Would Pallikonda - Palamaner stretch be safe at this time of the day? I am asking from snatching or robbing kind of a perspective. Since this stretch is through a deserted area, with less population.

IMPO, after sunset, you better stick to GQ - 4L roads considering safety and speed. Irrespective of theives, its still not a right time to drive in 2L roads which is quite heavy in truck/bus traffic that too rash driving by Bus drivers.

Avoid the Palmaner route during 6PM to 12AM. You will get to see hell lot of traffic in this stretch. It will be wise to stick with the GQ itself.

@Hyper-Vtec

I have done this road after 8PM twice and there was no issues with snatching or robbing. In fact i was apprehensive about doing the same at night. Checked with the locals there before taking the route. They re-assured on the ghat road being safe and having constant movement by lorries and other goods carriers.

My concern would be not the snatching or robbing but the thought of a flat and in the dark. It can get a little apprehensive when you are stranded alone trying to change a flat. Fear of changing tyres alone is more to me than getting robbed.

In fact at night the ghat roads are far safer with headlights giving you good indication of whats coming on the other side. Unlike day time when you cannot guess whats on the other side of that hairpin or the bend.

Its around 30 minute ride in the ghats (Maximum).

After crossing the Pallikonda Toll, the right is about 1000-1200 metres away. There is a intersection and a gap in the median to turn right. Lot of cars/motorbikes take this right. If confused, ask for Gudiyatham.

To be precise this is the first right after toll. It has some 6-7 small speed brakers.

The road starts narrow but after 800 meters or so the ghat road starts.

I think i will skip the Pallikonda-Palamaneri route after 8PM and go via Chittoor. I dont want to take GQ because as mpksuhas mentioned (and i noticed that as well) there are lot of diversions and since i stay in Banaswadi, it doesn't make sense for me to do that.

While going to Bangalore from where do i turn towards Chittoor? From Walajah or Vellore? What would be my landmarks. I will travel tomorrow evening and start from Thoraipakkam around 5:30PM.

At Ranipet, its milestone 115km to be precise (this is the milestone distance marked on the side of milestones). The junction is 4 km before Arcot, and is just before the infamous Arcot bridge where 2-wheelers come on the fast lane on wrong side. It is very well marked, there will be a bridge for the opposing traffic and not for you. You'll go under the bridge to take a right to Chittoor.

You can either take this or continue straight and take the right just before the Palar bridge thereby avoiding the crowd at Wallajah bus stand. You still have to cross Ranipet. This saves time only when you plan to cross this stretch during the daytime, else continue as Narayan has suggested.
