When it comes to Hotels at unique location, only one name comes to my mind - KMVN Guest House Binsar, Uttarakhand.


It is by no means a great accommodation, but it's location will make you forget everything else. It's located at zero point at the cliff top of Binsar bird sanctuary and provides a 360 view of the snow capped Himalayan peaks.

The Leela (now Raviz) in Kovalam is one of my favourite hotels. The original beach and hill rooms were designed by Charles Correa, and it was the first five-star resort in India. I'm not a fan of the newer Club wing though. It has great history and the beauty is matched by the level of culinary expertise in the kitchens.

The Lake Palace in Udaipur is fantastic as Jeroen mentioned. I've had the privilege of going there more than once. Their rooms are a bit hit and miss - some are small.

Another great place is Primrose Villas in Chikmagalur. It's on top of a 110 year old coffee estate that still functions, and has been lovingly designed by a couple with great taste. Each room overlooks the Western Ghats, and their food is quite excellent.

Amazing location. Somehow the picture even dwarfs the mighty Himalayas or is it a trick photography?

Happy seeing The Leela Raviz being mentioned multiple times as it is located in my hometown.

Niraamaya Retreat , Kovalam , Trivandrum is another beautiful place. The Banyan Tree Bungalow is a very interesting concept.





Camp Noel , Vattavada Munnar

Away from the city buzz , located at the most scenic locations in Munnar . Camp Noel is highly recommended if you are looking for a calm and relaxed location



Vanya Tree House ,Kumily, Thekkady.

Perfect place if you are looking to connect with the nature. Wake up to the sounds of birds ,animals and the lush green trees. You need to hike for 750 meters to reach the tree house.

Stayed at this place last year. The resort is located on the edge of sea, Absolutely calm and shallow waters. we can walk into sea for about 100 meters. Kayaking and Snorkeling are the other activities can be enjoyed. Shipping containers are converted to rooms. Food is a concern though.

Fantastic thread! Already one of my fav on Team-bhp. The one I am looking forward to staying in as soon as we are able to travel again is Lakshman Sagar in Raipur, Rajasthan. I adore how it sort of blends into its surroundings rather than dominate it. The cottages are beautiful and sustainable and the food served is based on local recipes including local fresh produce. And have a look at that pool, if that isnt one of the best pool in all of India, I dont know what is

The pictures were taken in 2011 with a Fujifilm 30x zoom camera. But when you are at zero point in Binsar, it does feel that you are at same height as the Himalayas.

I wonder why this topic hasn't come up before. Here are a couple that caught my fancy:

1. The Grand Shambala, Kalpa, Himachal Pradesh. Views of Kinner Kailash peak from the rooms. Amazing to see the snowcapped peaks in winter.



2. Kathadi North homestay near Rameswaram. The location of the homestay itself is nothing great, but it is a few hundred metres from a secluded beach where they organize water sports activities like snorkeling, paddle boarding, kitesurfing and such.



Kathadi North is close to Pamban bridge and Dhanushkodi where Palk Bay meets Gulf of Mannar. You will notice that at any time of the year, the waters are calm on one side and rough on the other side (the sides switch after 6 months). This makes it ideal for water sports and water activities. You can see this in the picture. There are waves on one side of the road and none on the other side



This is Palk Bay in the calm season (I went there in July). Even people who aren't fond of swimming in the sea can swim here. It feels like a pool.
