He He He, dont worry of the heat if u hail from Chennai. I enjoyed the moment of Saligrama, Manipal in the afternoon. Infact evenings and mornings are very nice in all seasons of Coastal Karnataka...

I would like to know if I can reach Udupi from Bangalore bypassing Mangalore, via Sringeri. Any inputs on the roads to take and their conditions, I will be taking my Baleno, not an SUV.
Best route...read my travelogue of Saligrama

Blr - Hassan - Golitattu - Dharmshthala - Karkalla - manipal - Udupi

Looks like mapmyindia and Eicher maps have become obsolete on t-bhp .
Guess they should consider removing karnataka, kerala and tamilnadu off the map.

I use Eicher maps and IMS District Road Atlases (for each state) extensively. There is no way any forum can replace a good map.

What you see on this forum is the experience based on referring to these maps, planning & undertaking journeys and then advising others.

Now, I'm sure your statement was in a lighter vein but I'm clarifying for the benefit of newbies to touring who shouldn't make any wrong assumptions.

If you are planning to go further down past Mangalore towards Kerala, you may consider going to Bekal fort.

BTW, I just got back from M'lore. Its blowing hot and cold there.. It rained on the day I landed, but it was quite hot the next day...

It was maps primarily plus the experience that we are discussing here...You cannot replace a map any time...

Try karwar

Hi Chandras. You could try one of the island resorts at karwar, they are pretty good. They pick you up in a boat and take you there. You can park the car near the jetty, and since it is a regular thing for them, the cars are safe. The accomadation is tented, though, and no AC!

You can go back via ankola-hubli, and hit the pune-banglaore highway.
