re: Bangalore - Kukke Subramanya : Route Queries

Even if its open, its not an option for drive to Kukke. Extremely desolate, narrow and dangerous.

Bisle is not at an option to drive to Kukke. Even 4X4 vehicles strugle on this road. Roads are very narrow and there will be no person to help you in case you get stuck.

Thanks for the quick responses. Google maps is showing this route. Anyway will go through Sullia. What about the road condition between Kukke and Dharmasthala?

Kukke to Gundya is very good. But you need to take the Kukke-Nelyadi road. This road had water overflowing on it. So dont know how it is today post monsoon. The route further up from NH48 is rough. Not all that great. Maybe you can drive to Gundya and then continue on NH48 to take the Dharmasthala exit. Thats also an option. But let some one confirm on Kukke-Nelyadi road condition.

The road to Kukke via Sullia from Shanivarasanthe is almost 100 km more compared to Bisle ghat road. Is Bisle ghat so bad? I have an Tata ARIA. As per Google maps the distance between Shanivarasanthe-Kukke is 56Km, the same via Sullia is 148KM.

Will check with locals before proceeding to Dharmasthala.
Via Gundya means NH48. Is the section between Gundya to Dhamasthala open? Asking because google maps is showing this as a part of Shiradi ghat

Its not just bad road (read very bad), but even dangerous with extremely active wild life (elephants).

Shiradi ghat road ends at Gundya. So I think roads further up on 48 should be OK.

You'll be cursing yourself if you take the Bisle ghat road. It's that bad. Between I had seen reports in another thread that it's closed now for repairs. You stick to Sullia route. Excellent roads all the way upto Kukke. On the way to Sullia, you'll spot a board with the directions to Kukke (10 km before Sullia). Don't take a right there. Even that route is horrible. You cross Sullia town and take the regular route to Kukke.

You mean via Pichar, Sonangeri etc? Any idea how long will it take from Bangalore if Mysore road has moderate traffic?

Bisile ghat road is now closed for repairs, its not an impossible road but you have to trust your luck and take this road, no mobile network, no passing by vehicles and nothing except silence for 23Km of ghat road. The safest option will be Bangalore-Hassan-Belur-Mudigere-Charmadi-Dharmasthala-Kukke, distance wise same as Bangalore-Mysore-Madikeri-Sullia-Kukke, but much reliable road condition., I saw recently on a Kannada news channel that the truck traffic has been banned completely on Charmadi ghat.

Yes, it's through Paichar - Sonangeri - Doddathotha - Guttigaru - Subramanya. It should take you around 7 hours by driving moderately.

Guys, is this the route you're suggesting for Bangalore to Kukke?

Yes this is the route. Take the Sampaje road all the way to Jalsoor. And then drive to Kukke via Guttigaru.

There seems to be right turn before we reach Jalsoor as per the maps?

Yes there is a bypass. But I keep hearing contrasting views from time to time. So its safer to go all the way to Jalsoor from a road condition point of view.

After Sullia, you get a right turn towards Kukke Subramanya, it's around 39Kms from this turn to Kukke Subramanya.

The roads are in good condition all the way from Bangalore till Kukke.
