Thanks rkg, This can become a nice one day outing in some weekend...Will try it out sometime...
Belur-Halebid can be clubbed with some trip later....

Hi Ramki
I hope I am not late....I recently did the same Kukke route in my Wagon R. Bangalore Sakleshpur is fairly straight forward - NH 48 from Nelamangala via Kunigal and Hassan. Suggest you buy an IMS (Indian Map Service)district road atlas of Karnataka which is pretty comprehensive and useful. If you are starting from Bangalore early in the morning, then you can have breakfast in Kamath soon after Channarayapatna before Hassan - this is right next to the highway. Soon after Sakleshpur, take the Bisle Ghat road from Anemahal checkpost. The road is pretty bad but you have very limited options as the Gundia road (erstwhile road) is closed for repairs. Enroute, you can have a look at the Bisle viewpoint which is pretty spectacular. The road condition from Kukke to Dharmasthala via Kadaba is again pretty bad. Hope this helps,

Cheers

Heard Sakleshpur ghat section is back to its gory glory .

So limited options, I would re-commend this route
Bangalore– Tumkur – Tiptur—Arsikere—Kadur(take left) – Chikmagalur—Mudigere—(charmaadi ghats)—Ujjire -- Belthangady—Guruvayankere (take a right) -- Venoor-- Moodbidri--Manipal--Udupi.

Follow the route

Blr - Neelamangala - Hassan - Belur - Mudigere - Beltangadi - Karkal - Manipal - Udupi

You can expect about 20km of bad stretch in the Belur - Mudigere stretch...

If you are taking NH206 then no point coming down to Charmadi and again going up...

Chikamagalur - Balehennur - Sringeri - Agumbe - Hebri - Manipal - Udupi will be a better option...road is also fine..

Riju, THere is no need to go to Modbidri from Beltangandi, Karkal route is shorter and faster...

Yes, till the monsoon ends the state of the roads wont improve. since the money to fix the road is sanctioned i guess this stretch would be drivable soon.

No, it's not in a pathetic state.Work is going on & most of the craters are gone.If one can drive carefully,it's the best route as there is no heavy vehicles at all.Speedsatya did it over the weekend, you can PM him.
