Hyderabad - Badrachalam : Route Queries

I'm planning a weekend trip to Badrachalam in my Viva CRDI. Any tips on route, stops, accomodation ( staying overnight) would be helpful.

Also, any other suggestion for a close by destination for a weekend trip from Hyderabad is also welcome. please dont suggest nagarjuna sagar, srisailam, been there several times.

Mobike
I think you go via Khammam to go to Badrachalam. If you start early at 5:00 AM, you would reach Khammam in 3 - 3.5 hrs.

I think you are aware of the route. You take Vijayawada road and near Suryapet (125 KMS), you come to Suryapet. Drive safe in this road. It is filled with trucks and busses racing to enter Hyd city before the restriction time starts at 6:00 AM. The road is 4-lane with median for the first 25 KMS after leaving Hyd. Suddenly the road becomes 2 lane without median. After entering Suryapet, you come across 2 4-road junctions. You should take left at the second junction. Khammam is 60 KMS from here. The roads are ok but less crowded.

You can stop at Khammam for breakfast. If you don't want to stop at Khammam, there is left turn to the bi-pass road before entering the town. This road is called Ashwararao pet road. This is a good road. Most of it is 2 laned with 4 lanes in towns and villages. You can really push your car here. The directions for Badrachalam and other places are clearly marked on the way. I am not sure where the road deviates to Badrachalam. But you should be able to make it out with signs on the way. According to my friend who went there recently, it is another 1.5 to 2 hrs drive from Khammam.

It's better you book your accomodation at AP Tourism owned Punnami resort prior to your trip.

The best way to go to papi kondalu is go to Rajahmundry (my home town) and take a launch from there. It's a dreat journey travelling in Godavari on the roof of the launch. Watch the telugu movie "Godavari". I don't think you can drive there though.

Thanks a bunch for the info Satish. I plan to go either on saturday or sunday but, i am a late riser , so wont start that early.

I plan to start around 8am and reach Badrachalam by 2pm ( 325kms???) and start back early noon on Monday and before night would like to reach back to Hyderabad. I will book the room through APTDC as suggested.

Please dont forget to post your experiences plan to do the same trip a week after.

Actually I was also looking for company to travel,
It gets a bit boring for both of us sometimes with no company on overnight trips.

I think we ought have a thread for a travel calendar where every one posts their travel plans and commnicate if they are intrested to take on other members. and go dutch.

Btw, my trip is in bit of a dilema, also contemplating a plan to drive to Vijawada/Rajmundry on Monday morning and back on Tuesday late afternoon along with a friend on his office work ( but, in my car). If this does not materialize then will go ahead with my badrachalam plan. So right now

Do you live in Hyderabad? When do you plan to go to badrachalam? My main idea is not for visiting the places but the drive itself

The temperature in Bhadrachalam is around 49.8 C. Read it in todays news paper. Better to avoid going there in summer.

Yes! Badhrachalam heats up to 48-49 degrees every summer. Better not to go now.

re: Hyderabad - Badrachalam : Route Queries

This trip has been in the offing for a long time. We are planning to visit Badrachalam on the March 5th weekend.

Appreciate the shortest/best route including staying options.

TIA!

As rkg suggested, it is a nice route via Warangal, Ramappa Eturunagaram & Manuguru to Bhadrachalam.
