Delhi to Patiala, hired taxi.

Hi folks,

I am looking for a good taxi service which will take me, my wife, and 16-month old comfortably from New Delhi to Patiala.

I need a chauffeur-driven petrol car for hire. Could anyone please recommend a good service (contact numbers). How much would it cost for a hatch, a sedan, or a larger Innova (wonder if one can get a Petrol one).

Thanks!

5rs/km for a indigo(AC) is the standard. For outstation if you are not coming back be prepared to pay 1500 extra(return (280kms).
As for reliability most of the operators esp ones who serve companies are reliable. A friend of mine took this rate indica to Rohtak from Delhi.
Why do you want a petrol car? A petrol taxi is rare and expensive(Hertz/Avis)

Its nothing to do with a petrol or diesel. AFAIK inside indigo you will not get any diesel smell. Its more to do with driving style(motion sickness)
If you take an AC indigo/indica from the newer lot, there will not be any issues.
Petrol taxi's cost upwards of 15-20kms/km.
So a 600kms total trip will cost you 12000rs.
If you are willing to self drive a small car like Santro etc., is available on rent from Hertz for about 1500rs/day(negotiable).

Thanks once again tsk. The nausea, well, I think there is a strong psychological component to it, reinforced over a period of years; I will try out a diesel car in town before booking the car in Delhi. I would like to be driven, I will be tired after a long flight and will want to be fresh as I possibly can.

I called up Hertz and got Rs 2925/- for Esteem/Indigo (D) + 200 (Chauffeur) + Rs 13/per extra km.

and Rs 5625/- for Innova + 200 (Chauffeur) + Rs 25/per extra km.

I would gather they would charge me for the entire distance (to and fro) as I would be making a one-way trip and will be staying in the Punjab for a few days.

Well I told you about the cost part. Its expensive.
A car will not be nauseating like a MuV.
If you ware in Delhi for few days, try renting a diesel indigo and see how it goes.
for 3000rs you can do the entire 2 and fro.
Not only that you can keep car with you in punjab. Have to pay drive 200rs/day + minimum 400rs/day.
PM me if you need any more help.

Hi bunny,

Have considered it. I need a connecting train which can take me to Patiala (or even Ambala). Our flight reaches there at 4:50 p.m., so I will need something that I can easily get (considering delays in flight timings), but at the same time something for which I don't have to wait ages...I might as well reach by road - and so the taxi thought. Any ideas on trains mate?

The NDLS-BTI leaves at 14:15 I think.

johy if you want something direct, there are two options
1. Dadar ASR express 5am in morning from delhi, reach at 11
2. New Delhi BTI express 2:15 in noon, reach at 16:55
Towns along GT road are well connected by rail, but patiala is 40kms off the GT road, and connectivity is poor.
Also these trains go through Sunam etc., line and I do not recommend that route as cancellations/delays are common on that line

Since you are coming in by flight, I suggest you look at operators who run Airport - Punjab AC bus services.
That way you can alight from your flight and can catch the 8pm air conditioned Bus.
Cost is around 800/person(negotiable depending on rush from Canada)

One more option is PUNBUS Volvo, started by PRTC. There is a bus to Ludhiana-ASR etc., but if you want to find about AC volvo to Patiala, I can do that for you.

My wife also has this thing against diesel vehicles. It is the minor vibration, she says. It would take her hardly 15 mins before she gets sick in a diesel car, has spoilt a friend's skoda & my cousin's Lancer.

Try & get a Lancer (petrol) or an Ikon.

I am not sure of timings of Volvo buses from Delhi to Chandigarh ( for Ambala ). It can be a good option. Kalka bound shatabdi timings are around 5:15 PM so that won't be possible.

Tsk, yes if you can please find out the timings for AC Volvo to Patiala - that would be great. I was thinking if I take the 8 p.m. bus, I would have already lost 3 hours, by which time I would have been half way to Patiala by taxi.

I would not like to wait overnight in Delhi.

@Bunny, from Siliguri.

Also, I can get off on GT Road/Ambala and have someone pick me up - provided I get a bus that will save me time.

If you take bus train route, you have to go to ISBT or Railway station = 1.5 hours.
So you pay 350rs + Train bus fare.
If you take taxi you pay something like 3000rs and reach patiala by 11pm.
Better than Ambala, its Sirhind which is just a 1 hour drive from patiala.
Shatabdi express has a stop there, but it leaves the station at 4:30pm.
Taxi is the cheapest and most comfortable option. Believe me running around Railway stations or ISBT with luggage and a toddler is not fun.
Take a diesel indigo/indica to patiala.
Meanwhile I will find out about direct AC bus.
When are you reaching(approx date)
