Kundapur to Murudeshwar is pretty manageable just a few bad patches here and there but the potholes are humongous.

Yeah.. For anyone traveling frequently on NH17, SUV is the best option. But the main roads inside M'lore itself is pretty good, since they have concretised most of the main roads. They should concretise NH17 once and for all. Though the concrete surface isn't very smooth, its better than the road contractors/politicians making money every year in the name of "repairing" NH17, only to see it destroyed within a few days.

Yes, considering the condition of the other roads, concretised roads in the city are a big relief - even though concrete roads are bad for your tyres and give less driving comfort when compared to good bitumenised roads.

The reason for pathetic national highway is lack cordination between center and state government. I can see State highways and City roads in Karnataka better condition rather than National highway which means center is not giving importance to national highways passed in Karnataka, very unfortunate!

Karnataka Government has sanctioned 1lakh kilomter road and would be completed in 3 years form now! which is good news, I wish centre comes up with true packages to improve national highways like NH17.

Regards,

Ravi.

Hi Ravi, what has been mentioned by the Govt. is a day-dreaming task. The Surathkal-BC Road-Mysore stretch took off close to 3 years ago, and we all know where it stands now. As a side note, actor Sunil Shetty and Mohtisham builders pitched in money for concretisation of KS Rao Road in M'lore, and the project is nearing completion in just about 2 months time (the stretch is just about 200-300 metres, but still). Can the road laying department take cues from them, just this once, and complete the on-going works in record time? I know to think of this, but hope a miracle happens.
