Thanks arun_josie for the suggestion of the route through Asaripallam. I went last week through that route on my trip from Bangalore to Trivandrum. The roads were good. On my return leg, I tried the deviation from Thingal Nagar directly to Aralvaimozhi (google suggested) and found the roads to be narrow. Occasionally truck drivers from the opposite direction were trying to push me off the road and I encountered some bad stretches too though limited.

Two days back Marthandam flyover was opened for public to walk across. They also conducted some cultural events. Most probably this flyover will be opened for traffic by december.

There are some concerns raised by public that this flyover is shaking, however the Engineeers have responded that this flyover has shock-absorbers. I couldn't find any official response on this.

Here is a small clip which shows the shakes in the flyover

I believe bridge swaying on load is quite common to ensure it does not collapse. This is true especially when there are large number of people using it or when wind blows across the bridge.

Experts can correct me if I am incorrect.

You are right. The shakes are very normal and who else but we Bangaloreans to share our experiences. After all we always wait and crawl on most of the flyovers in our city and at times the vibrations and shakes are very violent too.

Folks

I plan to drive to Thiruvananthapuram in the last week of December with my family. I intend to stay close to Ananthapadmanabhaswamy temple. Which is the best hotel based on my location preference. Budget is not more than 2500 / day.

Also which is the recommended route ?

There are no good hotels within walking distance of the temple. You can search near the City Railway station area where you'll get options in all budget. You will be staying a couple of KMs away and can take an auto to the temple. Parking is an issue near the temple anyways.

PS: It is just Padmanabhaswamy temple, no Anantha 🙂

There are many locations where you can stay. Few hotel i can suggest.

1. Park Rajadhani - right at the east entrance of the temple.
2. Hotel Pankaj - MG Road (2-3 km form the temple)
3. The Royal Heritage Hotel - Kaithamukku (2km)
4. SPS Kingsway and Pallava Rajadhani - near airport (3 km from temple)

All the above 5 are within your budget.

If you can go up to 3,000 a night, The South Park and The Residency Tower are good. (3km)

In auto it takes only 5-10 min from any of these hotels. Rs. 25-30.

..

Agree, parking is always an issue near the temple. If you know the area, it can be managed. But as you are new it may be better to go in auto.

I intend to stay in Hotel Town Tower near the Secretariat. Any idea about the hotel review. I did check the reviews through make my trip etc. They seem to be OK.
From your side do you have info about the hotel ?

Hello- I was looking for a route to Goa from Trivandrum and was suggested on another thread to go via Bangalore. Can anyone please look at the link below and confirm if the route is fine to Bangalore?https://www.google.com/maps/dir/8.58...15.3815395!3e0

Shivasi, try to stick to NH44 as much as you can. The route through Kilimanoor-Rajpalayam to connect to NH44 involves two lane roads with a lot of curves. I would suggest to take the Trivandrum-Kanyakumari route in the early morning, say 5am to avoid traffic and it will be a faster drive.

Yes, this route looks fine. Starting early will help big time.

And to cross bangalore, it is better to take the NICE road from Electronic City.

Yes. Plan is to start early. I will halt in Bangalore and start next day for Goa.

Oh wow! I have a trip planned during the last week of December towards TN and was wondering about this flyover!

Thanks for sharing. Hope it opens up for regular traffic by then or do they have to wait for some politico to come and open it?
