This route though longer, has 200Kms on the mahamarg, so checking if that's a better option. |
Please check the Hyd-Indore thread. There are 1-2 guys who have done it

Road conditions average Omerga-Tuljapur - bumpy, abandoned flyovers works, leaner at some stretches. |
What stretch are these abandoned flyovers? Naldurg-Tuljapur doesn't have any as far I remember.

Nanded-Shirdi and if the extra kms on Expressway might not still make it fastest route.

You can average 100 on Samruddhi (maintaining 115). We did Hyd-Shirdi via Hinganghat-Wardha-Samruddhi taking the same 10 hour ballpark in Dec 2022.
Biggest pain point is food options, not the extra distance

The abandoned flyovers are on the Omerga-Naldurg stretch. I have seen some of them in works in 2018, still not complete as we enter 2025. Naldurg-Tuljapur is the lean stretch. Naldurg a pain point at times, has a bypass getting ready to open soon, to save us a few minutes. Solapur Dhule is one of the better highways i have driven, so I lean towards it. Will try the Nanded route next time though for a new experience. It only gets better when Nanded-Jalna expressway(govt approved) is ready. Easy route pick there on, hopefully 2028.

Thanks for your suggestion on checkng the Indore -Hydrabad route section and it was quite helpful. It does seem that Nanded route is more con=mfortable though a little longer but it does not add to total travel time . Will opt for the same on return sector. I was also thinking of visiting Aundha Naganath temple, which is considered as 8th Jyotirlinga(competes with Dwarka Naganath temple) and is at Hingoli which is midway between Nashik and Hyderabad. If anyone has visited that, will appreciate the feedback.
Done the onward sector i.e. Hyderabad to Nashik via Naldurg, Omerga, Tuljapur route the roads are decent. Visited Tulja Bhavani temple for the first time and was very impressed with the deity and the temple atmosphere. Onward to Auranagabad to visit Sri Vigneshwar Jyotirling and then finally got onto Mahasamruddhi mahamarg for Shirdi temple the next day. It always delight me to get onto this highway and feel like going to Mumbai or Nagpur and I will surely do the full stretch one day. Currently in Nashik visiting Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling and on my return journey I will do the Nanded route and will update the experience vis a vis the Omerga route.
Returned back to Hyderabad from Nashik via Nanded route. Started at around 7 am from the hotel after partaking the breakfast and just outside the Nashik hopped on to the Mahasamruddhi Mahamarg which is my favorite expressway.
Travelled almost 350 kms on the mahasamruddhi mahamarg which was a blissful journey.
The Nanded- Hyderabad road conditions were also good. Overall there will be a not so good stretch of say 80 kms of the roads but overall the road conditions on this route, though longer than Naldurg-Aurangabad route, is better. The overall time it took me to travel almost 750 kms was around 10 hours with bio breaks and refueling twice. For all SHirdi/Nashik travelers I would suggest to take this route.
Need guidance on the route to Shirdi from Hyderabad. Planning to start early so I can reach before dark or at least by 7 pm.
We may touch Grishneshwar/Ajanta caves on return route.

If you want to go to Nashik first then I suggest going via Nanded which allows almost half of the journey on Mahasammrudhi Mahamarg and is a delight to drive on. Even the route up to Nanded is good as I returned via same, only 2 weeks back.
On your way back you can opt for Aurangabad-Tuljapur-Naldurg route and can visit Vigneshwar and Ellora which can be done in a day but you will be required to spend a night in Aurangabad. Darshan at Vigneshwar are easy and free unless you wish to do the puja inside which will cost you 1100/ paid and receipt given by the management committee. Mobiles are supposed to be deposited outside(Rs.10/charge) but I saw many using their mobiles inside clicking pics. and regretted not carrying mine.
Hi Everyone,
We did a Hyderabad to Shirdi Road Trip in April 2nd week.
Route Taken:
Hyderabad (Gachibowli) → Naldurg → Tuljapur → Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar → Shirdi
Total Travel Time: ~10 hours (including 1 hour of lunch/tea/bio breaks)
Road Conditions:
Excellent overall
One rough patch: ~35 km stretch between Naldurg and Tuljapur
Food & Rest Stops
✅ Hotel 24 (Karnataka) - This is on the right side on your way to Shirdi
Google Maps
Link
About 90 km from IIT Hyderabad (on the right side of the highway)
Good food and ✅ Clean washrooms
✅ Hotel Gandharva (Maharashtra)
Google Maps
Link
Around 100 km after Tuljapur, en route to Shirdi ( on the left side of the Highway)
This place has clean washrooms
Didn't try the food, but a decent spot for a Tea / bio break
Restroom Alert:
Once you cross into Maharashtra, good rest stops with clean washrooms are rare
Plan your stops smartly!
