From Chennai, go to Chittoor, from Chittoor take the road towards Palamner, at Palamner take a right turn to head towards Madanapalle, ask for directions at Madanpalle, Horseley Hills ain't too far from there.

As lukeshywalker mentioned, this road is excellent throughout but could be more in terms of distance....
You can also try NH205 directly to Madanapalle, probably it can shorter in terms of distance...

If this is not too late, here's the route:

Chennai - NH4 - Sriperumbudur - Ranipet - Chittoor - Palamner

For those familiar with this stretch, the bypass for Tiruvalam town is complete. Earlier, one had to cross the Ponnai riverbed and go through Tiruvalam town (the old bridge was unsafe). There's a new bridge now and the road is great.

In Palamner town (which you'll pass through), you'll come across a very crowded junction with a left turn (which takes you to Gudiyattam). Just beyond this in a circle with a statue on it. Take a right turn at this circle and the route is:

Palamner - Punganuru - Horseley Hills

Palamner to Punganuru is a lovely stretch.

the route i've taken is chennai - walajahpet - chitoor - palmaneeru - madanapallee and horsley hills. my school was right next to horsley - so have driven this route quite often. when driving thru the towns - GO SLOW. else - its a lovely scenic drive.

I made a weekend trip on this route, thought I'd give a quick update on the road conditions.

Chennai-Wallajah on the GQ. Wallajah-Ranipet-Chitoor-Palamaner was on the two laned NH4. It has been ages since I've travelled on this, lots of heavy vehicle traffic , which was slow moving. Some of the dangerous/steep curves have been made safer. Palamaner-Mandanapalle was a nice drive but with lots of share autos, but scenic drive. Took a relaxed 4.5hrs for the 250+kms (door to door, with stops)
