Some 25 years back, a stretch of narrow and winding road from Kottapuram to Edapally was declared to be a National Highway. 2.5 years back, the government finally acquired land to straighten that stretch. That itself was in the teeth of stiff opposition. About 9 months back, it was decided that BEFORE the work on straigntening begins, land for 4 laning too should be acquired and the narrow road should be made a 4 lane direct. (that is what I assume from reading between the lines in the press).

The people are, of course, again opposing this.

Strangely, those leading the protests do not own any land subject to acquisition. All they do is carry on the agitation for some time and then finally direct the land owners to certain lawyers who "specialise" in land acquisition compensation cases.

bangalore to trichur

hi everyone. I'm planning to travel to trichur from bangalore next week (Accent CRDI).
Haven't travelled in this route for long time now. Can anyone suggest which is the best route in terms of distance/ road condition and travel comfort as of today.. esp after the rains,
: Bangalore- Dharmapuri- Mettur-coimbatore/ Blr- Dharmapuri-Salem-Coimbatore OR Blr- Mysore-nilambur-shoranur??

Regards
Fazil

In terms of distance / road condition last option seems to be better Blr- Mysore-nilambur-shoranur.
Most of Tamilnadu NH 7 stretch is in bad shape except Bangalore - Krishnagiri road.
And NH 47 Salem - Coimbatore is also in bad shape, most of the places 4 lane work is going on.

I travelled in this route almost 15 days ago.Road between Gundlupet and Gudallur is in VERY bad shape. But apart from this, roads are good. Compared to Salem route, this is the better one as of now(until we get any other update).

Best route is to take mysore, bandhipur, gudallur, nilambur, perinthalmanna, shornur, thrissur. Roads in the tamilnadu stretch is bad here i.e. between bandhipur & Gudalloor which is only for a max of 5 to 10 kms. You will love the drive from gudalloor to nilambur through the ghats & carpet clean roads.
or
try the mysore-sathyamangalam-coimbatore, palakkad route.

Last week I had my drive through Coimbatore - Satyamangalam-Chamrajnagar - mysore. From Coimbatore till Karnata border, around 110 kms the road is excellent. You can see deers, and elephants. I saw lot or Lioned faced monkies (they were really afriad and run away when I tried to take them snaps).
Inside karnataka till mysore the road is bad to worse. I couldn't reach even 40 kms at few stretches. (A landrover just overtook me in about 100 kms + speed even at the road with lot of potholes.

Palkkad-Coimbatore is not good also, when I traveled about a month back.

But you can manage this route, I beleive.

Please post your observations on the conditions of road once you enter Kerala, Nilambut to Trichur and how many KM are good/bad. I have a friend who will be traveling that section shortly.

Thanks,

Dont bother with NH47. From Marine Drive, take the new Vypin Bridge and enter Vypin Island. This road joins NH17, and is narrow but in excellent condition. Very smooth surface.

At N Paravur, we join NH17 and continue on to Triprayar.

Here is some news to avoid the tricky and congested Ernakulam - Edappally - N. Paravur section. I have not tried it yet.

On Vypeen island, instead of turning right at Cherai "Devaswom Nada", you continue on straight, to Munambam. Somewhere on the way, there is a right turn where a new bridge has opened. The road takes you through front of SNM college, Malyankara, and joins NH 17 just a couple of KM before the Kottapuram/Kodungallur bridges. The roads ought to be good, since I can see KSRTC's big busses operating.

Even I am planning to take this route (bangalore - trivandrum) next month. Any update regarding the road condition will be of great help. Also is it better to take bangalore - madhurai - TVM ? how is the road condition for the second route? Which one will be shorter?
