I believe Perinthalmanna to Kuttipuram is not worth a try, esp. from Perinthalmanna to Valanchery where you join NH-17.

A faster and in fact shorter route would be Nilambur-Manjeri-Malappuram-Kottakkal-Kuttipuram. This road must be in very good condition too and has good hotels en route.

Ajit, Thanks for that update. I was not sure of the Nilambur-Edavanna-Manjeri road status during rains. Hence did not suggest that. How is this today.
Melattoor section is generally very good, but with quite twisty roads.

People who drive from Calicut to Mysore/Bangalore are preferring this route due to Wynad Ghats being in sorry state. Someone who came around 2 weeks back said Nilambur-Edavanna-Manjeri stretch is good.

Melattoor section, even though twisty roads, is always a very comfortable driving zone. Anyone did this stretch recently?

re: All Roads to Kerala

I will be using this route Blr- Mandya-Mysore-Nanjangud-Gundlupet-Bandipur- gudalur.

Please let me know which is the best route from Gudalur to kuttipuram. Also please tell me the total Kms that it will cost.

One most important thing is that the roads need to be reasonably good with the signboards in English atleast in less frequent distance.

Thanks in advance.

As Ajith said, take the Gudalur-Nadugani(TN-Ker border)-Vazhikadavu-Nilambur-Manjeri-Edavanna-Manjeri-At Kottakal join NH17-Kuttipuram.Nilambur to Kuttipuram would be around 75kms-80kms (2-2.5hrs of drive time.)

re: All Roads to Kerala

I found this in the below mentioned thread. Looks interesting please verify the same.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...guruvayur.html

Mysore – Bangalore (~150km)
Nanjangud - Mysore(~21km)
Gundlapete - Nanjangud(~34km)
Gudalur - Gundlapete(~52km)
Nadukaani - Gudalur(~11km)
Vazhikadavu – Nadukaani (~18km)
Kottakkal - Vazhikadavu (~ 71 km)
Kuttippuram – Kottakkal (~ 25km)

The total distance works out to be approx 385 kms. Is this really true.

re: All Roads to Kerala

Also a question in general:

What is the state of NH213 (Palakkad-Calicut).

What is the usage of this NH compared to other roads in Kerala.
I have never heard much being talked about this NH.

Its in pretty good state,I use it all the time, and traffic is dense and at some places its very narrow, but overall the road surface is excellent.

Very good state indeed. Also, heard they used some Malaysian technology in most parts of this road so that it does not crack because of rains.

Calicut-Palakkad private buses and truck traffic to Coimbatore and beyond forms the major heavy traffic on this road. There are a few hilly terrains and a mini-ghat section just after Mannarkkad (from Calicut side).

I believe you can easily do Calicut-Palakkad in about 3 hours on this stretch.

Yes true,3hours is the normal running time of all the buses. It is the same "Malaysian technology or some other technology not sure about the name that has been used on the Palakkad-Shoranur road as well,a reason why the road is in its present uncracked condition!

Private buses used to cover Palakkad - Calicut (140km) in 3.5 hrs during the 90's. I'm sure they must be flying now!

Friends, any updates on the Udupi-Pattambi section? Considering the rains, what would be the ideal route to follow? Approximately how much time will it take to reach Pattambi if one starts at 6.00 am from Udupi?

I guess the simplest route would be to come on Nh17 via Mangalore, Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode and turn off NH17 at Valancherry or Edappal.

A hard day's full-day drive, you have to navigate heavy traffic in Udupi-Mangalore-Kasargod and Kannur-Kozhikode sectors.
