Guys, have anyone travelled from Bangalore to Cochin via Avinashi > Palladam > Pollachi > Valparai > Athirappilly > Chalakudy recently? 1. I am concerned about the road conditions in the forest as i have a Zen which has one of the least GC. 2. My wifes concern is more about the wild animals in that route. Are there frequent encounters with elephants or other wild life? And what about the traffic? 3. Any decent eateries enroute since we have a toddler with us. Any pointers will be helpful. I wanted to try a different and scenic route since i have time in hand this time. else most of the drives are confined to NH7/47. |

Can someone give me an idea of how the weather is looking for south Kerala? Is it really cold in the morning and is there heavy fog etc? More specifically the Punalur/Kottarakkar/Chengannur area. Thank you in advance! |

around 03.00 PM. That means you will be reaching Athirapally past 06.00 PM, any delay and you can end up stuck. If possible try to start bit early or better break the journey in Valparai for the night. |

I assume you meant Annalakshmi? There are a lot many more now including a Saravana Bhavan and Aryas. True, the CP guys act funny and at times dont let you go through the CP from 430 itself because by the time you make it to the next CP as per their calculations, you are bound to be beyond 6pm when the CP closes. |

I had done the same route in my Alto, though not recently (last year). Road condition is bad between Malakapara checkpost to place marked as Sholayar power house in Google Maps. However GC should not be an issue, just factor in more time for travel. |

From ranjitp1's post, i infer that the CP closes at 6, which is something i dint know. How's the road condition from Avinashi to Pollachi? Any idea? |

Thanks to all for the valuable suggestions. (Not quoting everyone). Yes, i can start early to make sure we have abundant time in hand to enjoy the nature and tackle the roads. Good pointer about the plastic bottles. Not that we litter every place, but good to know that they do actually check and caution people against it. All reserve forests are closed for traffic during night. It is onky that time of closing may change like 6 pm in this case or 9 pm in the case of mudumalai. |

Not all. The Wildlife sanctuaries in Wayanad district (Wayanad WLS and Tholpetty WLS) are open for traffic 24 hours. The night traffic ban is in force only in Karnataka (NH212 traffic towards Karnataka is blocked from 9PM only from the checkpost on the Kerala-Karnataka border) |

Are wayanad and tholpetty WLS, declared reserve forests or just sanctuaries. Because supreme court order clearly restricts movement of vehicles and people inside core and buffer zone areas inside reserve forests with no exception. |

I am planning to take this route for onward journey during this holiday season (Dec 24). There will be 3 of us, myself, wife and our 3 year old daughter. We plan to leave by 5-5.30 AM. These are the points i need some advice on: 1. I am concerned about the road conditions in the forest as i have a Zen which has one of the least GC. 2. My wifes concern is more about the wild animals in that route. Are there frequent encounters with elephants or other wild life? And what about the traffic? 3.
