Others said it in detail.! Thanks

I suggest you to plan in such a way that you reach Palakkad before 4-5pm. You will find it very easy to take the bad stretches during day time. Also, the traffic won't slow you too much during that time.

Only concern between Avinashi and Coimbatore for a day time driver is those humps on flyovers. Everywhere except one place you can find 30km speed limit board to warn you. Watch for it.

Option 2: Start early morning at Bang and reach by afternoon. Start early next morning to Palakkad.
Which of the two options is better.
If possible, please avoid ALL night drives, esp with a 1 year kid on-board. Day 1: Hyd-Bangalore. Stay at Bangalore, and start early morning (5 or 6 ish) to Palghat. With 5 people on board, there will be significant needs that you need to attend to, in addition to driver's needs (rest etc). Take care and drive safe.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Hi All,

Planning to drive to Guruvayoor from Bangalore (via Mysore). Need help on which is better route from Gundlupet.

Car : Vento
Time : Starting at 5:30AM in Bangalore-west

Preference : Less traffic, good roads. +100KMs is okay.

Thanks

Please note roads around Gudalur are not that great.

Couple of options:

Mysore-Gundlupet-Bandipur-Gudalur-Nilambur-Wandoor-Perinthalmanna-Pattambi-Kunnamkulam-Guruvayur

The other option:
Mysore-Gundlupet-Bandipur-Gudalur-Nilambur-Edavanna-Manjeri-Malappuram-Kottakkal-Kuttipuram-Edappal-Kunnamkulam -Guruvayur.

For "less traffic", you need to try another state - it is not available in Kerala.

For "good roads", nothing beats Gundlupet-Kalpetta-Kozhikkode(bypass)-Ramanattukara-Edarikkode-Edappal-Kunnamkulam-Guruvayur. Basically NH212 till Calicut and NH17 beyond (beyond Edappal it is some Kerala SH).

For less traffic:

Mysore-Satyamangalam-Annur-Karumathampatti-Palakkad/Pollachi-Vadakkancherry-Trichur-Guruvayur

Re: All Roads to Kerala

In fact I would still say if Mysore is not need, then just take the 4-lane via Hosur/Salem. That would be much much easier.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

How about the below route to reach Parambikulam? Any recent takers? My intention here is to avoid Thirupur and Pollachi.

Why do you wish to deviate from kangeyam. The best route will be kangeyam-palladam-pollachi-top slip to parambikulam. The kangeyam -palladam stretch is a bliss to drive. Palladam-Pollachi route is scenic with lots of wind mills.I have been on this route before.
When i went to top slip back in 2012, the road leading to top slip was in awful condition. Bone jarring drive throughout.

+1

The Kangeyam-Palladam-Pollachi route is shorter by about 10km, and it's really a bliss to drive.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Hi All,

I am doing a road trip from Hyderabad to Mavelikara. I plan to cover Hyderabad-Salem on the first day and Salem-Mavelikara on the next day.

For the Salem-Mavelikara stretch, which route would you recommend?
- Via Coimbatore, Palakkad, Trissur
- Via Dindigul, Periyakulam
- Via Dindigul, Madurai, Tenkasi

Thank you for your valuable inputs.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Hi ,

I am doing Ernakulam-Trivandrum next week. How is the road condition and also are there any speed cams in the Kollam- Trivandrum?

Regards,

Isaac

CBE-Palakkad-Thrissur is going to be a time consuming one.

I would vote for the Thenkasi-Punalur-Adoor route.

In trying to avoid Pollachi, you take on Udumalpet. And the other thing, if you need to break for some food; options are much better in Pollachi.
