Lot of landslides leading to unexpected road closures plus incessant rain which has gone beyond the predictions has created red alert in the entire state. Any trip for tourism better be postponed till things are cleared. Kochi airport closed till 26th and few flights diverted to Naval base in Kochi. Trivandrum airport is active as of now, but not sure as there is no pause to the continuous rain.

No, was thinking of taking Pattambi route when other routes were blocked. However, by then got information from locals that Pattambi bridge is waterlogged.

You need to stay put. Please don't add yourself to the vehicle population and make the job of the relief workers that much tougher. A "function in Guruvayur" does not sound like something that is a must-attend.

My family stays in the Palakkad bypass and from their update, as of yesterday night all service roads in Palakkad were filled with lorries and Air buses which could not venture southwards.

If you see google maps now i think the road from Alathur to Chelakkara also is not open for public for another few days. Earnest request to postpone this travel plan.

Update about Road connectivity to Wayanad
======

A. From Karnataka: all roads are open. (On NH 766, there is a situation at ponkuzhi, 20 km from Bathery/ 100 km from Mysore because of inundation on road. But now it is fit for traffic)

B. From Tamilnadu: All roads from Nilgiris are open. May come through Karnataka also (via Kollegal)

C. From Rest of Kerala:

From Kozhikode district : Thamarasseri ghat and Kutyadi ghat are Open for traffic

From Kannur district: Boys Town ghat is Open for traffic.

Peria ghat is not open. Reopening work in progress

From malappuram district, Nadukani ghat is open

Thus, road connectivity is restored, except for Peria ghat

Boys town highly unlikely to be open! It was badly damaged. So is the Kottiyoor-Ambayathod area. Very landslide prone

Also roads are damaged in the Nadugani ghats as per Manorama reports.

Thrissur - Palghat/Coimbatore

I have advised them to stay for one more day and travel tomorrow.



Also, the alternate route is now open. BHPian Mallumowgli also confirmed the same but advised to check the traffic on the bridge.

So they were able to take the Shoranur route and have crossed Walayar. Absolutely no issues along that route and the weather improved once they reached Ottapalam. After Walayar, it was the usual dry climate.

A sigh of relief for them!

Hi Everyone,

I am travelling to Neelakurunji Plantation Resort, about 20kms from Munnar, off NH 85 on Tue, 21st August from Bengaluru. The route I propose to take is via Salem- Dindigul- Theni to the resort.

Wanted to check if this route is affected by the current rains in Kerala. We are scheduled to visit Eravilulam National Park to view the once in 12 year blossoming of the Neelakurunji flower.

A quick reply clarifying if it is safe to travel from forum members in the know will be highly appreciated as I need to otherwise cancel my booking and make other plans.

No fuel is available anywhere in Kerala. All petrol pumps are empty and closed now. Fuel trucks are unable to reach for distribution. Fuel is not even being made available for rescue operation!

Please cancel your bookings. It's absolutely not safe to even to enter Kerala for tourism now. Tourism is officially banned in the state now.
