Between Sembatty-Oddanchatram, did you by-pass Dindigul?
I don't see such a by-pass road in google maps!
Can you give little more description about diversions and stretches of two line and four line.
Specifically looking for for Kumali-to-Perundurai. The rest I have done many times, so I can manage.

Hi ABN,

I am from Palakkad close by to Perinthalmanna. The best road to Trissur according to me is bangalore-Mysore-Nanjangud-Bandipur-Gundlupet-Guddalur-Nilambur-Perinthalmanna-Trissur. ON this road, I ve driven many a times and the road's good just in between Mysore & Nanjangud is a bid patchy. The road via Bandipur & Madumalai is also mettled now.

you could look for this road map on google maps or MapmyIndia.com Online maps, GPS Navigation, Driving Directions, Local Search

cheers,

alphamike

From Sembatti, there is a state highway which connects Sembatti and Oddanchatram , that passes through a place called Kannivadi. From Sembatti, if you go straight , you will hit Dindigul. So take left and this passes through Kannivadi and meets Oddanchatram- Dindugul highway.

The exact route is as follows.

From Kumily, till Batlagundu, it is one straight road. On this route, you will pass Cumbum,Theni,Periyakulam. Just before Periyakulam, there is a decent hotel called Travancore Restaurant

.At Batlagundu, turn left for Sembatti. This left is also the turn for Dindigul and hence you can ask directions for Dindigul.

At Sembatti , again turn left for Kannivadi-Oddanchatram.

This road meets Oddanchtram-Dindigul road and there, again take a left, proceed straight and if I remember correctly, look for the first traffic light, where in you take a right. This right takes you to Dharapuram.

Negotiating Dharapuram can be a bit tricky.Ask for directions to dharapuram bye pass and when you hit it, ask directions for Kangayam.

This road enters Kangayam in a four/five road junction, which has directions for erode and Perundurai. Follow this to get to Perundurai.

The entire stretch is 2-lane but with very less traffic and hence you can have a relaxed drive. Make sure you pass these localities during day time or else you might not find people on the road for directions.

Night traffic through Bandipur (Gundulpet-Sulthan Bathery/Gundulpet-Gudallur) will be stopped from today 9PM followed by Karnataka High court ruling. Only two buses each from Kerala & Karnataka RTC and emergency vehicles permitted.

Any idea on the alternate routes?

Are we by any chance neighbours ? ( especially siince you told you start from Manimala ?)

Well, here are my timings for the trip.

Manimala 2 PM
Periyakulam : 6 PM
Mettur Royal bakery :11 PM
Bangalore : 3 AM

this is what I normally target in my trips.

I hate highways for some reason and hence always look for state roads ( as they are more pleasure to drive)

Just reached Trichur from chennai. There is nothing to worry about until Alathur from where you have occasional potholes until Vadakkancherry. From here upto Pattikad the road is in horrible condition. Night drive and during rains should be avoided.

Alternate route is Mysore -> Hunsur -> Gokikuppey -> Kutta (since Nagerhole route is also closed after 6) -> Thoalpetty -> Kattikulam -> Manathavady

This road is very narrow and not sure whether it can accomodate the same volume of the Muthanga traffic. More over, beyond Kutta towards Kattikkulam, around 4-6km are almost unmotorable for small vehicles.

Thanks
Rajesh

I plan to take the Salem route to go to Guruvayoor on that day. Assuming I start early morning (3am types) is it advisable to go via Tamilnadu with a KA reg vehicle?
Hi Sanjay,

TN route with a KA reg on a day like that. hmmmm....

Use alternate routes already mentioned here or delay the trip by 1-2 days. We have experienced something unpleasant at walayar check post when there was a problem between TN and Kerala (Mullaperiyar - 2006). We were going into kerala and werent allowed to go into the state. neither did they let us turn back, they (activists, protestors, hooligans) threatened to burn the vehicle if we tried to move it. There were ladies in the car as well. (BTW this happened right about 1/2 km away from a TN police station). Spent 18 hours there.. yes eighteen hours on the same spot and finally sneaked out of the place at about 3 am the next day.

So, to answer your question, dont even think about it.
