Re: All Roads to Kerala

I drove from Ernakulum to Bangalore through Salem on Sep 14th evening. Police presence is there everywhere in TN and KA vehicles are requested to drive as a convoy within TN and police escort is provided. Police advised all cars in our convoy to remove the number plates (don't agree to this logic though), BTW I didn't bother to refit the number plate as mentioned on one of the earlier posts till I reached my residence in Bangalore. We didn't face any issues and police was very supportive but account for 3 to 4 hours additional time for your drive since time is lost for escort change every 40 to 5kms and the driving speed is not more than around 70 kmph (started around 2 pm from Ernakulum and reached Bangalore at 2 am).

Due to some issue, we were informed there will not be Police escort from Thoppur, it is here we were directed to remove the number plates and was asked to stick to center lane and drive at 3 digit speeds without any break till we leave TN. Police flagged all the cars after around 40 kms and convey with escort was reinitiated till Krishnagiri toll gate, there was no escort from Krishnagiri till Hosur. All toll gates on the way are aware of the story behind the missing number plates and there were no questions asked both in TN and Karnataka including NICE.

A senior police officer requested us to inform friends not to venture in to TN with KA vehicle till things gets better, so please use your judgment

Overlooking the fact that removing number plate is illegal, wouldn't it make easier for people to spot non-TN vehicles. If there is no number plate, then it has to be from KA. Changing number plate from KA to TN would be better.
It's strange that we have to do all these circus in a free country.

Anyway, TN authorities seems to be doing their best to avoid any bad incidents where KA failed miserably.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Drove from Thrissur to Bangalore today. Didn't risk taking the TN route as family was with me. Took Thrissur - Calicut - Bathery - Mysore - Mandya - Bangalore. Started at 3 AM and reached by 2 PM. Initially I was planning to take the Kollegal - Kanakpura route. After finding everything normal on the route and nothing alarming on the news channels, decided to take the Mandya route once we reached Nanjangud. Whole journey was uneventful. Didn't notice any sort of disturbances anywhere on the route.

TN board vehicles are staying out of roads. I didn't see a single one, private or commercial. Saw very few KL boards as well. Overall traffic was thin and smooth. Between Mysore and Bangalore, there's police presence in most places. Saw few interceptors as well.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

I'm looking for inputs from people who have driven from South Kerala in the last couple of days.

Which route did you take to reach Bangalore? How is the situation in this route -> Kollam-Tenkasi-Rajapalayam-Thirumangalam-Dindigul-Salem-Bangalore? I drove the same route towards Kollam on Sep 11 and did not find any issues. In fact, we had our breakfast and lunch in TN with 1 hour breaks for each.

I drive a KA reg car, and plan to drive with family to Bangalore tomorrow, starting early.

We are on the way from Kerala to Bangalore on a KA registration car now.

At Kaniyur toll booth (Rs 85 toll) after L&T bypass, we are stopped by police now. Waiting for 10 to 15 cars to pile up and then police will take us in a convoy. Only 3 cars waiting as of now.

We were looking for police convoy at Walayar but did not find anything there. Drive from Walayar till here was uneventful.

Hope this information will benefit other BHpians.

Guys, I made the trip from erode to Bangalore via Krishnagiri last night in a TN registered car, lots of KA registered cars with and without number plates were making the trip along the way. At the Hosur/Bangalore border TN cops were letting through KA registered vehicles towards Bangalore and not letting through TN registered vehicles. Earlier this week they were collecting the KA cars at toll gates and providing police escort but didn't notice that yesterday, and vehicles were going on their own. Based on my experience would say it is safe to travel, but yes be watchful and make your own decisions based on what you see around you. All the best to you both and safe travels.

I travelled from Kannur - Mangalore on 05.09.2016 and found that the overbridge work has been completed and vehicles were allowed to ride on it.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Travelled to Bangalore from Trissur, reached gundlupet at around 3PM and decided to take the Mysuru - Mandya route. Did not face any issues quite a bit of police presence on roads.
Traffic was very light till Ramanagara and after that usual heavy evening traffic.

Stopped at Food mall before Madduru (one with A2B and CCD on opposite side), there was a huge broken window pane and lots of unofficial KA flag stuck all over the place also a police van stationed there. But A2B was operational as usual.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Onam festival over, it was time to "return to unit". I was in a really confused state, when it came to deciding the route which I need to take. After suffering for three hours at the Thamarassery Ghat road on my onward trip, I was totally not interested in going through that route again. The other option would be to take the Iritty-Virajpet route, but I am not at all familiar with that route. Finally decided to take a risk and go via the Coimbatore-Salem-Krishnagiri route only.

I crossed the TN-KL border at around 0930Hrs. Overall I noticed a sharp reduction in the vehicles on the road. No KA registered vehicle was coming from the opposite side. Even trucks and long distance buses seemed to be off the roads. TN Police highway mobiles were there, and was standing at really visible locations (with the light bars switched on). At the toll booth before Avanashi a TN Police officer noted down the registration number of my vehicle, and informed me that around 10 KA registered vehicles have just gone ahead and I could also join them and go as a group. After Kumarapalayam toll booth there was again a police check point. We were told to remove the registration number plates. When I was entering the toll booth, I could see a convoy of vehicles moving ahead. A Highway Police mobile was leading the convoy. I thought that after removing the number plates, we will have to stay there till another convoy can be formed up. But the police officials asked us not to wait and proceed. In about next 5 minutes I caught up with the convoy which had went ahead. There were around 10-12 cars, and around 6-7 KA registered trucks. They were going at a slow pace as the trucks would not be able to speed. The convoy was coming to a halt, as another highway police mobile was to now lead the convoy.

There were no untoward incidents at all; not even crowds of people standing near the highway with any threatening intention. At Attibele check post there was a huge crowd, as well as strong police bandobust. TN police was not letting any TN registered vehicle to Karnataka. TN STC buses etc. were stopped at the border point and people were asked to cross the border by walk. By around 1510Hrs I crossed the border, did not even bother to refix the number plates. Made a quick dash to home.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Same story for me. Till early morning of Saturday I was thinking of taking the Sulthan Bathery route. But I spoke to fellow bhpian "B103" early morning and decided to take Salem route. I got bit late to start.

Journey till a toll much before salem was uneventful. There were very less vehicles. Fellow member "B103" was well ahead of us and he kept us updated about the situation in regular intervals. Thanks mate!

All KA vehicles were stopped at a toll before Salem and police noted the vehicle number and details. They asked to rush and join a convoy of cars (without number plates!) which was left a while ago. We eventually joined the convoy with police escort.

The escort and convoy continued till hosur with regular stopping at tolls for arranging subsequent escort vehicles. There was quite a bit of time loss due to this but better safe than getting in to any trouble!

Anyways it was a good gesture from TN police and we reached silkboard by 6pm.

How did you drive to Bangalore if Police was not letting TN cars enter Karnatake?
