It's an extremely scenic route with sparse traffic. The sounds are proper jungle sounds and once I stopped in the middle of the road (no traffic) and waited for atleast a 1000 butterflies to finish their lunch on the roadside plants and to move over.
People posting daily pics/videos in social media will relish this route.
Hi,
I have a few questions regarding coming down from Yercaud to Salem at night.
1. Is there any restriction on the timing for climbing/descending the hill, can I come down at ~10.30/11pm in the night.
2. Are there any buses that operate at those times? (To reach Salem railway station)

1. Yes, the route via Kuppanur will be blocked after 9.30 PM, but they may permit passage for local residents or families. Tourists, young couples, and youngsters are generally not allowed. However, you can travel to Salem-Yercaud route and climb at any time without encountering any issues.
2. No, there won't be any buses operating during those hours.
Since the last few posts are a long time ago, and this is a question that has probably been answered before, but I would like an updated response if possible.
I'll be leaving from Chennai to Yercaud later this month. What is the better route to take, in terms of lesser diversions and better roads right now?
- GST Road, via Tindivanam, Kallakurichi, Attur?
- Bangalore Highway, via Vaniyambadi, Tirupattur?
When I last did a Yercaud run in mid-2023, the second route had better roads with the former having too many diversions, but I don't know what the highway construction scene is right now.

Did Chennai Yercaud trip last week. Onward was from Koothanur(Poonthottam) though and it was a breeze from Vaitheeswaran Kovil - Chidambaram - Sethiathope - Veppur - Attur - Salem - Yercaud.
The return was also a breeze via the back route in Yercaud hills via Kuppanur - Attur - Ulundurpettai and Chennai.
Went for some distance via the Uttangarai route, but returned back to take the Vazhapadi route owing to the ongoing road construction work.

Thanks, this was what I was concerned about.
I'll also take the Ulundurpet-Attur-Kuppanur route both ways (I enjoyed the drive the last time I took this route). :thumbs up
