Try Mayuri Restaurant on the Chittor bypass. Food is good there. There is another veg restaurant at Tirumala called Mayura. Its difficult to find a lot of varieties at Tirumala.

You will have to take the Old Madras Road. Try to leave early in the morning. Best time to do this section. Once you pass Chittore I think you get a deviation to the left. The roads are good from here. One can easily do around 100kmph throughout the whole journey. The ghat section is another story all together.

road is good. take chittoor bypass. you have reliance A1 plaza at bagarupalyam just before chittoor.( may be 15-20KM on the right side)

palamner ghat section is ok. not that great ghat.

tirupati is mostly veg diet due to temple. you have plenty of hotels to stay. in tirupati try for a private cottage called SriVari sannidhi on Kapilathertham road( KP Road) if you are on budget. i was told it is good.
TTD cottages are just ok for a night stay. bare minimum stuff . but they are the only option on hills.
better to stay at tirupati and visit kalahasti( 40 Km only, beautiful road)
bangalore to tirupati is 250-270 KM one can make this with in 5 hours.

plan your visit according to darshan timings you got ( if you are visiting for darshan) you can book darshan and cottage at TTD office at malleswaram ( Vyalikaval)

try to visit gudi mallam near tirupati. form renigunta is 10 Km . ask for papanaidupet form renigunta. from there is 3 km. second century BC siva temple is there. unique siva linga in entire south india

if you are planning to stay in tirupathi...no problem you can find lot of good decent hotels to stay.

if you wanna stay in tirumala you can stay in good guest house maintained by TTD.But for that you have to book in advance. please check their web site for more info. if you dont get guest house you may try garudalwar homes. it's pretty good and near to the temple.

any way enjoy your trip and pray in behalf of all bhpns.

For exact route details, pls read the Day1 of the travelogue below:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...e-kolkata.html

Road is good throughout...except the Chittoor BP which is relatively uneven but not potholed...
We stayed in one of the best hotels in Tirupati...Hotel Kenses (Part of the ITC welcome Group Chain)

A1 Plaza is exactly 20km from Palamner (junction)...

FYI...list A1 Plaza on the Kolkata - bangalore route

I just remembered that you cannot go up from Tirupati to Tirumala sometime during midnight. IIRC, it is 12.30 to 2.30. So, if you are doing early morning sevas, you will have to stay at Tirumala itself. You could get advance booking from Tirupati itself. Search this forum for a recent thread on Chennai - Tirupati. It has some info about accommodation.

TTD accommodation - especially the premium ones are very good. Certainly not star class, but good.

True that. One cannot travel to Tirumala in odd hours anymore from Alipiri. Though I do not remember the exact timings, I think the cars are let out at 4 am or something from the bottom. Make sure you get there early, take the ticket for your car and get done with the security check. Security checks are mandatory and very strict now.

Thank you all for your replies.
I am planning to start early in the morning and reach before noon.
(Planning to book from Bangalore for Darshan)
Finish the darshan on the same day and stay somewhere in the night and go to Kalahasti next day and return.

at bangalore centre they give darshan timings as 11-12 AM and evening 2 or three Pm for Rs 50/ ticket. for this you may not get cottage booking.but if you are booking paid sevas like AAD,NPD, suprabhatam they book even cottage for you.
if you plan to start in the morning go for AN darshan booking. you can come down by late night if there is no rush. book on week days rather than weekends when there will be lots of rush and you will not get a proper darshan. weekdays are always better. avoid sat'day. check for brahmotsavam which are due shortly.

I have travelled during January 2008 in KSTDC volvo. Roads are excellant hardly any potholes one can see! I feel one can cover with 4 to 6 hours based on speeds we maintain and breaks.

Tirupati to Tirumala ghat section road is awesome!

Near Kolar and chittoor both hotels are good and I too heard Bhima residency is good place to stay.

Regards,

Ravi.
