Hows the Blore-Hubli-Ankola-Goa Rd?

Last I had done this road was in May 2006. Am planning it again in October this year. Last time the 4 laning was done till Chitradurga only. How is it till Hubli? And what about the Hubli-Karwar road? It was showing signs of potholes etc last year. Is it any better? or worse?

Blore-Hubli is good for the first 200kms. The rest is in pathetic state.

Hubli-Karwar i heard is in bad shape especially on the ghats. Hubli-Ankola which is around 135 kms takes around 2.5-3 hrs.

Thats a shame - the Hubli-Ankola road when first built was touted as a great quality surface.

Last year I did a trip thru BLR-Belgaum-Amboli ghat (maharashtra) then got into NH17 on the other side.
NH 4 A was in worst condition that time (sep/oct last year) and hence we chose the amboli route.

Yup it was a real dream. I think Autocar once rated it as the 2nd best road in the country. I remember doing the 135kms in 1hr 15 mins with 5 people onboard. Today, i'd struggle to match that time even if i drove a WRC car LOL.

Did goa Blore and back last month. followed route as suggested by hvkumar. nh4 from chitradurga to haveri is bad, haveri to mirjan including ghat rd is OK , mirjan to ankola pathetic, thereafter ok till goa border, then very bad in goa all the way to madgaon.
But at this time of the year, there is not much choice. the coastal route is to be avoided at all costs due heavy rains and traffic. work on nh4 is all but stopped so the bypasses are horrible. saving grace is blore to chitradurga 4 laned all the way. keep us posted on ur trip

Chitradurga Haveri stretch is not good, same may be the case until you reach Hubli. GQ contract for this stretch has been cancelled and under litigation.
