Planning to travel to Goa on 23rd October. How is the Alnawar-Anmod route after monsoon? Looks like preferred route is still Hubli-Ankola-Karwar. Please suggest since the Anmod route takes hardly 10 hours from Bangalore with 1 hour break whereas the Hubli-Ankola takes nice 12 hours to reach. My destination is south Goa before Madgaon.

For South Goa your best bet would be Karwar-Anmod route. Expect some rough patches b/w Ramnagar and Goa border but nothing too bad.

The Alnavar road is a very good road. Newly relaid. Its actually a tolled road now! Beyond Londa the road is average. Decent road but has rough edges here and there. Nothing to worry as such.

Thanks for this information. I am planning to go the same route in the middle of next week. One additional information that I would like to know. What are the good eateries along this route. I plan to start at about 5am from Bangalore and have breakfast at Ranebennur. What would be a good place for lunch?

Regards,
Prasad

Once you are past Hubli, I am not sure of any good places along the Alnavar way. You may have to look for some road side hotels only. Hope others can suggest some places if they are aware.

3 options :

1. have breakfast earlier (eg: Kamat at Sira) & a second round at Ranebennur, or Kamat Upachar before Hubli (on the opp side of the road)
2. Brunch at Ranebennur
3. Breakfast before Ranebennur, and then lunch at Kamat after Dharwad on the Belgaum side - and then get back to Dharwad - Alnavar road.

Thanks ampere and condor for your replies. I will probably go with a 4th options: Breakfast at Ranebennur + packed lunch along the way. I can carry some sandwiches or get something packed at Ranebennur.

Also, is the Kamat restaurant in question before Ranebennur and was earlier called A1-plaza? I am asking because my Garmin maps are slightly outdated and it lists A1-plaza but no Kamat.

Prasad

The Ranebennur Kamat is just before Ranebennur bypass. You should be able to see the board.

The map is correct. Kamat is located inside the now de-funct Reliance A1 plaza.

Am quite surprised! When I Google for Kamat at Ranebennur, I get to see the Kamat but on the other side of the road. Google used to show it correct earlier. Has anything changed?

Is this still inside the reliance plaza though? I remember seeing an empty bunk and building with Kamat next to it. I had snacks near Ranebennur in a Kamat, but I can't seem to place whether this was at the Kamat on the opposite side or a few kms down the road. I even have a photo of the back of the back of the menu, but I can't remember :what:

Perhaps a good way is to call on the number listed on their website and check with them if any one answers?

As oft repeated it wont help you reduce your time of journey. Bad and narrow roads at many places.

Yes, it is located inside the Reliance plaza. Iam not able to find the same in Google maps, however I guess this is the place. It is visible in satellite view

Even I was surprised to see it listed on opposite side of the road in Google. However in my login I have the earlier place saved, it still displays as Kamat.

Will check it out in two weeks when I am planning to drive down to Goa.

OT: With the diesel de-regulation, one can expect this bunk to reopen.

I plan to go to Palolem/Canacona. Is this Anmod route the best one? Or Hubli - Ankola?

I do like the route through the forest (Bankapur - Mundgod - Yellapur), but since this time I will be going with family, I am looking for the fastest and smoothest option.

For Palolem, you best bet is via Hubli-Ankola.
