Belgaum - Goa

I did the Belgaum-Amboli-Swantwaddi-Goa route a little over a week back. its a decent drive for most of the route.
Heard that the Belgaum-Londa-anmod-Goa route was bad, but i cannot confirm this.

That is correct Prashanth. I traveled on NH-4A a month ago and the route was being relaid. I could travel without any trouble with stuffed Santro having 4 people and a lot of luggage. Entire road is in good condition.

I have just returned yesterday from goa. Took goa, ankola, yellapur, hubli, bangalore road. This was roughly 675km from Varca. Add another 30+ to panjim. Left varca at 3.30PM reached home by 12.30 in the night. the only pathetic stretch is the 20 odd km when nearing bangalore and haveri to chithradurga.

Via amboli ghats I guess it was 750ish. I took that in Oct 2008. Shortest in my opinion is via Haveri - sirsi -kumta

Ya that was about 650km from my home to Dona Paula Guest House when I drove down.
I guess the NH4A is the shortest but the road is bad!!

A little different vehicle query!

I need some advice here. I know I have myself done Bangalore Goa a lot of times and the recent one being in April first week through NH4 and then yellapur - karwar and goa in a Tavera.

This time is its a little different. My team from office is going with about 24 people and we are taking 2 Tempo travellers from office which are AC so no one bus strategy.

I wanted to know what is the best way to go in these bigger vehicles and may be more comfortable. We want to get the best and fastest route as we plan to leave bangalore at 11 PM and reach Goa the next day.

Please advice.

I guess you can stick to the same yellapur route. Blr - haveri - hubli - yellapur-ankola-karwar-goa. That was quite plain road and decent stretches as you know with out much curvy ghat sections.

I have done it on May11th in a little over 9hours.

If your halting place is Northwards of Panjim you can choose the Sawanthawadi route or NH4A (Kittur - Khanapur) route.

We are staying at Calangute. Abhi, the sawantwadi route wont be much longer? HUbli to Belgaum is itself 100 KM and then from there...

Stick to yellpur route - it is faster.
One through amboli will be slower and atleast 70+km more till Calangute

Then stick to NH63 that will be faster in a bigger vehicle.

SH-34 condition ?

Alnavar - Londa : was good, as done more than a year back. Been a few years since it was done up, but is still a decently good stretch, I would say.
Do we have to take SH-28 via Haliyal to reach Alnavar ?. Dharwad-Haliyal-Alnavar is ~ 50 km. The direct route i.e Dharwad-Mugad-Alnavar on SH-34 is only ~ 30 km. Is this stretch of SH-34 in a bad shape ?

Overall, what's the latest on the condition of SH-34 ?. (Dharwad-Mugad-Alnavar-Londa-NH4A junction)

Thanks much.
