Did Bangalore - Goa, 14 Jan - 17 Jan
Route used both ways - NH4 to Hubi -> NH63 to Ankola, Karwar -> NH17 to South Goa
Onward Journey: 11 hr including 1.5+ hrs of stoppages (lunch etc)
Return journey: 10.5 hrs including 1.5 hr of stoppages
Highlights:
1) NH63 during daytime is really good. Really pleasantly surprised
2) NH17 is single lane and narrow but manageable and for South goa the above route makes solid sense
3) Nelmangala expressway saved me lot of time getting out of Bangalore
planning goa trip this weekend please suggest best route to go to south goa
nh4-hubli-nh63-karwar-nh17- palolem seems to be the best bet.
any suggestions , time needed will be helpful .

For south goa that seems to be the best option. Check posts around October on this same thread for lots of information.
Without any halts and not too fast driving, you can do it in 10 hours. The trick is to get out of Bangalore as early as possible. Take NICE road to save a good hour.

NH4/NH63/NH17 is the best route available from road condition standpoint.
Possible options for Breaks: Tumkur/Davenegere/Hubli/Yellapur/Ankoa
If you are starting early from Bangalore you can as well go through the city instead of NICE. Its good and does not any time at all.
thanks for the replies , i am planning to start by 4:30 am, not decided if to take nice road or no.
I would need 2-3 breaks as i am the only driver.

At 4:30 AM just go through the city. If you stay in south bangalore/E-City, then NICE road makes sense.
Your first break can be at Davenegere "Benne Dosa" !
Not to mention Kamats, CCD etc before Tumkur, but that would be too early.

If its HSR layout, at morning better to go via the city. During day time yes NICE does make sense.

Check the situation at Yeshwantpur where Metro work is ongoing. If you leave at 4:30 you should be able to make it by 2:30 without halts.
Check
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ml#post2089011 for very detailed directions and tips of halts.
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ml#post2107065 has my timing logs in a very ugly formatted way since I did not know how to post it in a table.
My suggestion would be to take a printout of JLN's 2 posts for details.
Deepak
thanks deepak i will be taking print outs of both the posts
returned from goa trip this weekend.
Took the root as suggested by most people, for south goa.
NH4/NH63/NH17 .
Thanks to deepak and JLN for the informative detailed posts about the route.
It was super helpful .
Just to update this thread, did Bangalore-Goa-Bangalore on Feb 16th return 20th night, used NH4 till Hubli-bypass, NH63 via Yellapur, join NH17 just before Karwar, roads overall are good with a couple of bumpy patches but very doable at 70kmph odd types without runing your suspension. NH4 at haveri the railway crossing is still under construction with people coming in the wrong lane out of the blue. Time required, going 10 hrs, return was around 11 hours with stopages.

Can you let me know how to reach NH63 from NH4 when you reach Hubli?

You wont enter Hubli city, there is a bypass-toll road (charges Rs34 he will charge Rs.20) tell him you want to go via NH63 (Yellapur highway, its also called Hubli-Karwar road). You have to go on the toll road for a very short distance and on your left you will get the exist, very visible.
Cheers
Hi Guys,
I am planning to do Bangalore - Goa (south Goa) this month. I would appreciate if someone can let me know the detailed best route (with total distance) since i am driving for the first time from bangalore to Goa. Considering that i have an underpowered car like Wagon R is it advisable to do a non-stop drive? if no, which place i can stop for overnight and continue my drive the next day from there on? I will be traveling with my family.
Thanks in advance for your responses!!
