Gajadonga,

What is your feedback on these :

1) Hyderabad - Raichur - Bagalkot versus Hyderabad - Sedam - Gulbarga - Bijapur - Bagalkot?

2) Hyderabad - Raichur - Koppal - Hubli versus Hyderabad - Sedam - Gulbarga - Bijapur - Bagalkot - Hubli?

I cannot comment on the First part you have mentioned.

The second query I can answer.

The roads from Hyderabad-Boothpur-Mahabubnagar-Raichur.
Boothpur-Mahabubnagar widening is going on and not advisable.
You can take the regular Jadcherla-Mahabubnagar route.
Otherwise the whole stretch is in good condition.

Raichur-Koppal
It is average occasional potholes and rough roads.Lot of speedbreakers
around small towns. Can still maintain 80-100kms/hr.

Koppal - Hubli-Karwar-Goa
This is in good condition except for small stretches after Yellapur in the ghat
sections some pot holed roads.

Hyderabad-Kodangal-Gulbarga-Bijapur-Bagalkote-Belgaum-Chorla-Goa.
Has been updated as good roads by fellow BHPians.

Bagalkote-Hubli I am not aware of the road conditions.

As I prefer South Goa I prefer the Raichur-Koppal Hubli-Karwar route.

Choose the route as per your preference for North or South Goa

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Folks,

Need your advice:

Our usual annual family trip to Goa is on this September. We usually halt halfway to take it leisurely. To not make it an unworthy stop-over, we also try to make it around any touristy attraction enroute.

Now the question- what places would you suggest for such stop-over? I have already done Shimoga-Thirthahalli-Jog circuit. Anything on the east of 47? Would appreciate your inputs on the place & options to stay.

How about Sirsi-Yellapur? Places to visit : Magod, Sathodi falls, Jenukallugudda etc. You can stay at Yellapur: http://www.bananacountyresort.com/

Appreciate if you could let me know if you used this route? Where was the RTO office?
How long did it take to pay the permit charge and how much?
Had taken this route (Bangalore-Bankapur- Yellapur- Karwar- Goa) last Dec- Jan. The RTO check post is some distance after crossing the bridge over Kali river after Karwar. Don't know the place name, it is located in a forested area with the permit counters located on your left. You won't miss it because of the zig zag barricades and police presence. The charge was Rs 250 for 3 days if remember correctly. But, the buggers took 400 including kharcha paani.

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Had been to Goa during independence day weekend. Onward journey was BLR - Hubli - Belguam - Sawantwadi - Panaji - Anjuna. This route was taken due to sheer confusion, the distance was more and road from Belguam to Sawantwadi was single road with lots of villages and pot holes. The ghat section had patches of broken road and single lane adding to slow driving. Only consolation was sumptuous lunch at Belgaum and scenic views of Sawantwadi ghat.

Return journey was as per Fauji's advice Anjuna - Panaji - Anmod - Ramnagar - Dharwad - BLR. Fabulous toll road from Anmod all the way to Bangalore. Panaji to Anmod has random potholes needs alter driving, but once the toll road begins is a smooth drive. The road is wide and flat, reducing distance and travel time.

I would totally recommend Anmod route, since the tarmac is newly laid and tolled, it should be maintained well.

Car: Swift D
Passengers: 4
Toll paid
Onward - 925 (includes Rs.155 @ NICE road and Rs.250 Goa entry tax)
Return - 650 (includes Rs.155 @ NICE road)

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Any pet friendly hotel in / around Hubli to spend one night enroute to Goa?

I would be leaving Bangalore around 3PM and an trying to avoid driving the Hubli-Yellapur-Ankola ghat section at night. So need to find a hotel in Hubli that would allow a pet (3 month old puppy)?

The backup plan is that I spend the night in the car with the canine in a hotel parking lot. But thats not a very great idea :-( !

Just back from a 4 day stay in North Goa . We took the Bangalore - Belgaum - Chorla route while going . The roads are good and very scenic between Belgaum to Chorla , but somehow I didnt enjoy so much . Took us 4 hours from Belgaum to Bambolim beach during day time as we were stopping for pics and driving at a very leisurely pace

While returning , we took the Karwar- Ankola- Hubli - Bangalore route . I would prefer this route anytime . Total driving time was 11 hours with a bad sunday traffic after a long weekend . This included 3 stops for lunch , evening snacks and dinner .

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Folks,

I am driving from Varca (Goa) to Bangalore later this month. Do I have to necessarily drive up to Ponda to get on to NH4A or can I take interior roads (via Curchorem and Kulem) to join NH4A at Molem?

Thanks in advance...

re: Bangalore - Goa : Route Queries

Hi Guys,

Somebody solve the dilemma i have for my goa travel on the long weekend on 2nd Oct.

I have 2 options :

1) Blr- Tumkur - Davangere - Haveri - Hubli - Dharwad - Ramnagar - Anmod - Goa

Planning to take a night halt at Hubli clarks inn. An i believe the total route is about 10 hrs drive. I've done this before 3 yrs ago and i'm more comfortable doing this.

2) Blr - bhadrawati - sagar - gokarna - karwar - goa

This i'm not sure about and need your view on. Google shows 13 hrs but i've my reservation about what google says.

Our situation is that we've three families in 3 cars and everybody has a kid about 3-5 yrs of age. So we can't do a very long drive without halt.

Looking forward for suggestions.

This option will be a good one if you are planning for a stay. Also the road condition is good compared to the other route. If you are looking for a scenic drive and least bothered about the road conditions you take the Sagara --> Gokarna Route and plan for halting somewhere near Sagara or Jog.

Take this route.

But if you are heading to North Goa : Hbubli-Belgaum-Chorla-Goa.

If south Goa: Hubli-Yellapur-Ankola-Karwar-Goa
