Any tips where (offline or online) I can find detailed road maps for these two states? Specifically in Delhi NCR. Some obscure publication house that still makes these? Basic one-page maps can be found easily but they don't have the detail one needs while driving on the road.

I should also mention that while Google Maps and Earth or GPS are unbeatable at present, but one does not always have network connectivity in these states and the dependence on battery charge needs to be hedged against.

The last resort would be to print out Google Maps at home yourself.

Visit the kmvn or gmvn tourist offices, they usually have them stacked up at the reception desk. Meet the good folks there and ask for the maps for purchase.
