Pune to Hyderabad : Route Queries

Travelled from Hyderabad to Mumbai on Dec 24th

Started from home at 5:40AM and reached Solapur at 9:30 AM which is 300kms

Solapur to Pune which is 250kms or so took us almost 6 hours as after Solapur the Indapur section is full of truck traffic and thereafter dont ask me, be prepared to keep turning your steering wheel as there is a diversion every 1/2 km with lot of traffic and you will not even see 80kmph on your speedo.

Very frustrating section. But, if your mentally prepared. Not too bad I think

Wow! Since I have a humble hatchback, I guess I am better off sticking to NH9 then.

And yes, the deviation shown in the map is from Patas via Daund - it just didnt show up well in that level of zoom thats all..

Yes I think I will brace for a 12 hour marathon... One option could be to leave at around 4 am or so, hoping that some of the truckers will prefer having an early morning nap..

To avoid frustration on the Solhapur - Pune stretch, go to Pandharpur and do the Mohol - Pandharpur - Nateputa - Phaltan - Shirwal route, and then go up NH4. The road is wide, relatively empty, maybe 100 kms longer, but one hour shorter with no frustration

Pandharpur-phaltan route has lot of sugarcane cart traffic these days.

Natepute-Velapur is really frustrating road,
lonand-shirwal road is big mess due to 4 lane work.

As of now, you can't escape traffic, potholes and diversion on any route.

I travelled on this route in October and after Indapur took the diversion for Baramati as advised by my friend in pune. Roads are empty and devoid of horrible truck traffic as seen on the solapur-indapur route.
Route to take : Indapur-Lasume-Baramati-Maroagaon-Jejuri-Sasvad-Pune. This road will join just near Hadapar Flyover in Pune.

Did Pune-Hyderabad-Pune over the weekend.

Notes:

Left Pune at 4.45 to get the early morning advantage. And that proved to be right. The traffic till Solapur was quite manageable. reached Solapur at 10.00 am after a 40 min breakfast stop.
The road condition in this stretch, well everyone have been giving updates, so my only additional observation is that some additional small stretches of newly laid roads have been made open as part of the four-laning initiatives - only on one side though. That means less potholes.
Didnt get into any traffic jam, thank god.
Solapur to Hyderabad was quite ok, except for the occasional bad stretches , mostly in Maharashtra ( around Umerga and Naldurg if I remember correctly ). reached Secunderabad at 3.00, with a couple of 10 min breaks in between ( bio breaks etc ).
While returning, I left at 6 am and touched Solapur at around 11 or so, with a breakfast stop in between. Things slowed down after Solapur - while I didnt get caught in any jam, the progress was slow after Mohol. reached Pune at 4. Lunch break of 30 min.

Hope this helps! I kept moderate speeds, getting up to 100+ kph only in really open stretches.

Returned from Shirdi yesterday via Temburni-Hyderabad. Roads seems to be good except for the Karnataka Stretch rough roads

Pathetic is the only word I can think of to describe this road.

HYD-MH Border:Fabulous roads.Everything has been repaired and speeds of 100-120 easily maintained.

MH-Border-Solapur:Rough surface,some sections really bad,unruly drivers

Solapur-Indapur:Bad

Indapur-Loni: 4 laning in progress and road condition is terrible add to it deplorable local drivers and ST buses.

HYD-Pune-please target for 11hours of back breaking drive.

HYD-Solapur: 5hours/300kms

Solapur-Hadapsar:6hours/230KMS

I dont think I would want to drive on this road in the near future.If I do,I would definitely need a leg massage after the drive thanks to the Clutch-Brake-Accelerator routine that happens every kilometer

No change from what it was some months ago.Hadapsar-Solapur 6hrs.Solapur-Patancheru-5 hours.Bad roads till Umerga.

Any idea on how long would it take for four laning? It seems it has been going on forever!! And the road gets worse by the day!! A few months ago, I took a Volvo and I was bouncing like a ball inside, I guess driving should be worse!

4 laning should easily take another year imo,that too,the 4 laning is only till Indapur.Take the Shatabdi,it is pretty convenient.It reaches Secbad in 8 hours.
