Hello Everyone,

We are travelling from Pune to Hyd on 25th and return on 29th Aug. We are 4 of us in the car. Can someone tell what all checks are there and whether a covid test is required?

We all are done with both the vaccination shots.

I had travelled last year in November on the same route and there was no checking and fastag worked seemlessly. Can someone tell me about current situation.

They stopped and asked for a RT-PCR, even though your eventual destination was Hyderabad? Telangana doesn't require RT-PCR, correct?

Correct, however I was entering Karnataka from Maharashtra and this was the first day of new RTPCR requirement, hence the confusion.

Hi All,

Yes the trip was done and smooth. Here are my updates:

From Pune to Hyderabad:
1. Covid check: There is a checkpost at MH - KA border for RT-PCR check. We did not have a report, but we all were done with our double shots so they let us go after checking the certificates. Also since we were not going into KA, they did not make any fuss.
2. Roads: Almost good. There is a bad patch post Solapur but still drivable at 50 to 60kmph. Also there are some random small and deep craters on main lanes which are not seen from far, so watch out for them. It is difficult to spot at high speeds and may really put one in trouble.
3. Food: We could find many standalone places closed specially in Telengana, but we stopped at known places:
a. Shivraj at Indrapur phata for breakfast - good misal
b. Hotel Gujarat for lunch - good veg food and clean washrooms
c. Pista House for evening tea
4. Time: 11.5 hours (with stops)

From Hyderabad to Pune:
1. Covid check: There is a checkpost at TL - KA border for RT-PCR check. They did not stop us. Maybe because we were not taking a left into KA and maybe also we had a MH vehicle.
2. Roads: Almost good. There is a bad patch after entering MH but still drivable at 50 to 60kmph
3. Food: We could find many places closed specially in Telengana, but we stopped at known places:
a. Pista House for breakfast
b. Hotel Nisarg - This is just after Solapur but on the opposite side. We parked our car on our side of the highway and crossed the road. One will find many cars parked there and the hotel also has a dedicated watchman to look after the cars on the opposite side (which is a good move). If you have additional time, I would recommend that you go ahead and take a turn, but it's a long way ahead. It is worth it since the food is delicious, budget friendly and a really good place for families and kids.
4. Time: 10.5 hours (with stops)

Completed the Pune- Hyderabad- Pune round trip yesterday. Total round trip of 1200 kms approx.
Onwards 5th Sep -
Started around 6 am from Pimple-Nilakh, Pune and reached Banjara Hills , Hyderabad around 3 pm.

Return- 6th Sep-

Started around 9:30 am and reached Ph-3 Hinjewadi at 8:30 pm. It took two hours from Hadapsar to Hinjewadi.

Road conditions are very nice on an average.
Speeds of 100 kmph plus can be maintained if not worried about mileage.
Indapur - Omerga : Some odd pothole can come out of nowhere . Be prepared for that.

10-20 kms patch near Naldurg is under construction and hence some diversion.

For Fastag - only enter in those lanes in which you can see some vehicle passing after scanning. Not all lanes are working and you will be asked to move back and switch lanes. Very frustrating.

This is true for tolls coming in MH-KA border, KA, Telangana sections.

Hi TorqueSteer, the table below has the toll amounts from the Mumbai-Hyderabad section last year (₹810).

For Pune to Hyderabad, the first 3 rows will have to be excluded (₹505).

For the Hyderabad to Vizag section, I paid ₹733.

Planning to travel on this route next week.

Any COVID checkpoints along the road? Is a RT PCR test required to cross into KA or TL? Both, my wife and I are fully vaccinated.

We drove down on the 21st and returned to Pune on the 26th.
We left from Pune (near the university) at about 5.20 am and reached Hyderabad (Kondapur) at about 1:15 pm with a 20 mins break for our packed food and coffee. A couple of kms after crossing the KA border there was a check post for RT-PCR certificates. Since both of us are fully vaccinated, they let us through.
A 30km stretch before the KA border is in average condition with roadworks and diversions.
We left Hyderabad at about 8am on Sunday. Got stuck in a massive jam near Sangareddy (under construction flyover and it had rained heavily the previous night) for about an hour. Took a breakfast break at this place called the Food Pyramid. It is on the opposite side, but easily accessible as the median breaks aren't too far away. The food was average but the place was pretty clean and had good washrooms. We reached Solapur around 2 and stopped for a couple of hours at a relative's place. We reached home in Pune at around 8.45 with a 15 mins tea break just outside Pune.
My average speed for the onward journey was about 73kmph while that for the return journey was about 57kmph thanks in part to leaving early and avoiding traffic in Pune and on the Pune - Solapur leg.

Will be travelling from Hyderabad to Pune next week. My wife and I are fully vaccinated. Do I need to get RT-PCR tests done for my kids aged 11 and 8 years?

RT PCR is mandated by Karnataka for cars entering from Maharashtra. On our return journey from Telangana to Maharashtra via Karnataka, there was no check post.

So looks like it might be an issue on my return trip back to Hyderabad. I am based in Hyderabad and car has AP registration.
