Roads from HYD to Maharashtra border have been resurfaced a few months back and are great.

Maha border to Solapur is also fine - except for some patches/ diversions and the Naldurg ghat which is still two lane. Beware of traffic cops once you exit Naldurg. Keep all papers handy.

Solapur to Pune is also all good - barring 1-2 diversions. The final stretch from Uruli Kanchan to Hadapsar is like driving in the city - bumper to bumper in peak hours.

Hi. I have a query for members residing at Hyderabad.

I plan to travel to Hyderabad from Pune next week. This time, I would like to take bus reaching Hyderabad early in the morning.

If my destination is Kokapet, where shall I get down from the bus? If I get down at Muthangi, is there any public transport available to reach Kokapet via ORR? Because that seems to be the shortest route.

Hey Rahul, you can alight at Muthangi or Allwyn X Road and catch an Ola or Uber to reach Kokapet.
Getting off at Patancheru ORR junction will be beneficial.

Thank you. The bus will normally reach the Patancheru ORR junction at around 6 am. I don't know whether the Ola / Uber cab can be available quickly at that time at that location. What do you think?

Difficult to answer unless one lives in that area. It may be better if you get down at BHEL Junction at Ramchandrapuram, and take an Uber from there. There are better chances over there for Ola/ Uber. You can also get an auto there.

But do check while you are in the bus around 5 kms before Muthangi if Uber/ Ola are available at Muthangi/ ORR. If none are available, then do not get down till you reach BHEL Jn on the highway.

Travelled from Pune to Hyd on 06-Sep. Had lunch at Hotel Gujarat near Basavakalyan. I was expecting smooth roads in KA and TG based on my previous trip in Apr-2024.

It started raining cats and dogs 15 mins after we crossed the Telangana border and the rains followed us right till the ORR.
The visibility was very low due to rains and the roads have been washed away due to the heavy rains battering the region.

Travelling back to Pune tomorrow (15-Sep). Will keep this thread posted on the conditions of the road.

Travelled back to Pune on 21-Sep-24.
Started from Hyd (Sainikpuri) at 6:40 AM and reached Pune (Wagholi) at 6:40 PM - exactly 12 hours from one Parking space to the other.

Had breakfast at Food Pyramid just before the Kamkole Toll Plaza. Food was packed from Home so can't comment on food quality. Stopped here mainly to use the restrooms which were clean. Facilities were well maintained. Just beside this there is lots of greenery and I could hear the Peacocks' calls. One big disadvantage is it is on the other side of the road - need to travel a bit to take the U turn.

Had lunch at Om Veg which is just opposite to the Kia Showroom after crossing Solapur.
Good food and clean facilities. Good place for lunch.

Regarding the road conditions:
- Took the ORR at Shamirpet and got off at Patancheruvu: Superb piece of infra.
- Patancheruvu till Sangareddy: Roads are in a battered state
- From Sangareddy till KA-MH border: Roads are excellent
- After entering MH the roads are not maintained for the amount of traffic they see. Driving is really tiring.

Hi all,

I am planning to drive to Pune from Hyderabad and return next week. Planning to start at 5 pm from Hyderabad (I live close to ORR) on 17th Dec and 5 pm from Pune (Hinjewadi) on 19th Dec.

Wanted to check the following
1) Whether my start times are reasonable?
2) I read about Traffic Police checks - so what are the documents I need to carry along.
3) What are the bad patches I need to be aware of, in case anyone travelled in late November / December this year.

Any inputs would be great! Thanks in advance.

1. A 5 PM start from Hyderabad is as good as night driving for the entire journey since it gets dark early due to winter. Would recommend it only if you are used to night driving regularly. A 5 PM start for the return journey from Hinjewadi would mean driving through Pune city at rush hour. It may take a couple of hours to exit the city limits! When I visit Pune, I usually start from Pune (Baner area) around 5.30 AM to avoid the city traffic.

2. DL, RC, PUC and Insurance. In my experience, they usually ask for PUC and Insurance first. If these are in order, they let you pass. For DL and RC, if you have a soft copy on the RTA m-Wallet app, it will suffice.

3. Be extra alert on the Omerga to Naldurg sector + the Naldurg ghat road which is not that good and narrow.

Hi all,

I did Hyderabad - Pune - Hyderabad this week.

Started at 8:30 in Hyderabad but I had to take breaks amounting to 3 hours for office calls so reached Pune (Shukrawar Peth) at 8:45 pm. Took a detour to visit Solapur Bhuikot Fort. Didn't visit any restaurants as I had food packed from home.

Started at 1:45 pm in Pune (Hinjewadi Phase 3) and reached Hyderabad at 12 midnight. Took a couple of detours to Palasdev, Ujani Dam and Mohol market.

Following are the observations.

1. There is a clear difference that I could feel in Driver seat within 1 km after entering Maharashtra - roads were smooth in Telangana and Karnataka.
2. There is a very peculiar driving line (racing line equivalent of F1) that has formed in Maharashtra on the right most side of the road, with grooves reflecting the driving line of tyres - even the speed breakers follow this shape.
3. Naldurg section is a so slow - Traffic Police make it even more slower with document checks. Showing pollution certificate first-up is the hack for quicker verification. I was asked as to why I have a sun film on my car - when checked and found that is not a film but UV cut glass I was let go. Thanks to Maruti for UV cut glass in Baleno 2016.
4. While traveling from Pune to Hyderabad, last 20 km stretch before ORR in Telangana is not good.

Overall, this trip made me grateful to the quality of roads in Telangana and AP.

I did Hyderabad - Pune - Hyderabad (Dec 25th - Jan 1st). This was my fourth trip on this route. First one being in 2017.

Hyderabad to Pune
We are early starters so left KPBH at 5:00 AM in the morning. The road till Patancheru had early morning traffic on and off.

KPBH - 5:00 AM
Zaheerabad - 6:30 AM : Last August (2023) the roads had sunk due to heavy vehicles. The entire stretch is relaid and it was smooth.
Solapur - 10:15 AM The drive till KA border is smooth with hardly any potholes. Some diversions though. Once you crossover to MH, the roads are as bad as usual. The construction in the Omerga section is still incomplete. 3 flyovers opened. Remaining are still in prooggressss!

There is a permanent traffic-checking before Naldurg.

The best way is to get down and hand over PUC, Insurance, DL & RC with confidence. If they check about seat belts, tell that you were wearing. A vehicle was fined as kids were popping out of sunroof!

Hadapsar - 1:00 PM The road from Solapur to Hadapsar is in bad shape as well. Lot of potholes and a couple of diversions. MH roads have become a hallmark porr quality roads
Balewadi - 3:00 PM The city traffic was pathetic. Despite it being 25th, it took us good 2 hours to cover last 40 odd kms. Poor lane markings (solid lines), uneven roads and metro construction. It was hell!

We returned on 1st January 2025. Though we are early starters, we started late due to late night celebrations.

8:30 : Left Balewadi
Comparably lesser traffic and could cross Hadapsar by 9:30 am.

We halted at a nursery for about 30 mins. Got really good collection of plants at less than half the cost in cities. If you are a plant lover, this is definitely for you.

1:30 Pm: Halted about 30 Kms before Solapur at chaturthi veg

Traffic checking Post Naldurg fort as usual. Just took a minute.

3:30 PM : Crossed to KA and Halted for fuel. Loaded full tank and off to Hyderabad.

6:00 PM : Crossed Sanga Reddy

Greeted by evening bus traffic at Lingampally. Also the flyover work caused huge traffic Jam. Reached KPHB at 7:30 PM.

There are overhead Speed trackers on both sides after Patancheru. No challans though.

Last month, Solapur to Omerga. Works were ongoing at Anadur flyover and Naldurg bypass. There are 2 flyovers pending completion since years after Naldurg, I didn't see any work happening there.
