What about from Salem to Coimbatore?
It appears that in the "Kerala Road" thread, people are posting that the Mettur-Thoppur route is better than the Salem route. I guess the diversions are in the Salem-Cbe stretch.

I dont agree anymore, salem route is also equally good to kerala side. Especially if passing through at twilight hours when the 2 lane mettur side is a pain thanks to blinding headlights and mad truck traffic.

Roads in Tamilnadu are Stunning.
With new flyovers (and two way roads most of the places), indeed it will be a
pleasure to drive.
Cheers !

mkuruvil, salem - coimbatore stretch ( NH 47 - salem - sankari - perundurai ) is under 4 laning work and slows you down on many diversions and bad roads. The road may be better from avinashi to coimbatore though i am not sure.

Hi,

I did this route recently ( on Oct 5) and roads are good from Coimbatore to Salem. Most of the road from cbe - salem is a 2 lane road ( but much wider) and before salem for may be 100 KMs it is four laned. Entire stretch is excellent.

Salem - Blr is 200KMs and its an excellent 4 laned road ( NH 7).

Thanks,
Srinivas

razorblades, Hosur road is prominent - starting from city centre ( end of brigade road ) and takes you to hosur in about an hour. However, if you wish to avoid bangalore city, suggest taking the NICE road ( Toll road from tumkur road to bannerghatta road ) and then ask for directions to electronic city ( on hosur road ) as the toll road is not complete after bannerghatta road.

Please PM me if you need more details... would be happy to help !!

There are many Hogenakkal TLs. Many folks have gone there off late.

Bangalore Salem is 4L all the way.

Hello Folks,

Bangalore to Salem is the "Makhkhan Road". It can be done within 3 hrs.
1st toll at Krishnagiri = Rs.25
2nd Toll at Dharmapuri = Rs.48
3rd Toll at Salem = Rs.35

I have to go to Erode either this weekend or next weekend. I haven't been to that part before so need some guidance.
Can this be done in a single day?
I can start early like 4AM in the morning from Bangalore. I need to reach Bangalore back by night (11pm-12am). I have some 6-8 hours work in Erode before i can return.

If i am right, i should be taking bangalore-hosur-krishnagiri-dharmapuri-salem-erode route. Am i right? From previous replies, looks like bangalore-salem road is good. what about salem to erode? is there any alternate route instead of going to salem?

Easily doable. Start at 4, you should be in Erode by 8-9.
Account for a 5 hour drive.
