Yes, the Hyd - Belum distance certainly is slightly on the higher side to be covered both ways in a day, specially if u consider the current condition of the bangalore highway. Besides that u will require abt 2 hours for the cave visit.

For night halt u have 2 options - Tadipatri or Kurnool. Though Tadipatri is really close to belum, just 35 km, but it is a reallyl small town with very limited option of hotels and food, and u will find it difficult to get a good one with a proper car parking place.

Kurnool, that way, is a much better option. U have a fairly decent Punnami (APTDC) there alongwith a few others. The distance to belum from there is about 180km via gooty - tadipatri. So u can have your night halt at kurnool and go and come back from belum the next day. And if u are staying in Punnami, don't go by what the reception guys tell u about the route to belum (via banganapalle - betamcherla). We had the set-back on our 1st mission bcoz we followed that route.

Forgot to mention in my last post, that if u are going via gooty, look out for the remnants of the wall of the gooty fort on your left hand side atop a hill just after getting out of gooty.

Regards,
gr8 place don't miss it, drive is good, very exhaustive esp the return jouney. Since the caves are underground and going as deep as 60 feet at times, it leaves one very exhausted at the end. So take care of the return drive back to b'lore since at night you will have to face the busses on the highway without any dividers.

Also on left there is a large kumbhkarna's tourist place midway (watchout for monkeys).

Do plan for safe return jouney it's quite long trip (650kms) end to end from b'lore.

On Site eating: Not many options -- There is AP tourism hotel at this place (near the budha statue) which serves plate meals (decent and good as long as you like rice+pappu (daal), + usual junk food counter (colddrinks+pepsi+...) at the main entrance.
Enjoy,
