Travelled bangalore-chitradurga-hospet-bijapur-indi for diwali. Chitradurga to hospet stretch is bad, but 4way Road work is progressing fast. Hopefully within a year it will be over. Hospet to bijapur stretch is as good as it gets.

How is the situation beyond Bijapur when the road becomes 2-Lane? Any 4-lane work on going there?

I beg to differ, except for 1-2 km at starting, the road quality was excellent to drive, thought not divided. Personally i enjoyed the lack of traffic and countryside, a welcome respite from Bijapur-solapur road.
I have decided to forego Bijapur-solapur road for the traffic density.

This is the other 50% .. or may be more. Long convoys of trucks going at a certain speed means you end up waiting and waiting for a chance to pass ..

But good to see that the road surface has improved.

Is there any update on road conditions after Nov 2016?

I have been to Hospet recently and don't want to take Chitradurga - Hospet section. Very bad roads due to constructions and speed-breakers. I am thinking may be - Bangalore-Hiriyur-Bellary-Hospet-Vijaypura(Bijapur)-Solapur would do fine?

I plan to leave from Bangalore by around 2pm in the noon. So if I reach Vijaypura (Bijapur) in the night around 8pm, how easy or difficult it would be to reach Solapur thereafter? If I compare the Vijaypura - Solapur with Chitradurga-Hospect section - how much better or worst it is?

And by the way, with timings I mentioned, is it doable in one go?

Should be fine. You will be a little slow between Bellary and Hospet.

If you are leaving BLR @ 2 pm, then you will cross Tumkur not before 3.30 - and cannot reach Bijapur by 8pm, esp with the slow-down between Bellary & Hospet.

I would any day prefer a morning start to ensure we cross Hospet by noon. You can also try : Challakere - Ramapura - Ubbalagandi- Toranagallu - Hospet

Thanks @condor and @ampere for valuable suggestions. I agree with your suggestions and thinking if its making sense to travel. I was only going to Solapur for a quick meet with few friends. A colleague who was also accompanying me has dropped off his plans. Hence it does not make sense to drive all alone this distance. So I will cancel the drive plan for now and take a tatkal train may be.

I have taken the Challekere-Ramapura-Toranagallu route earlier and its good if not great. I took that route once last year when TBHP overnighter happened in Hampi and later drove the same route in January to visit Hampi again. Later is when I took Hospete-Chitradurga route after visiting TB dam. The road was not at all good. Thrice I ran over the speed breakers with the speeds of 70-80Kmph. With Truck traffic and oncoming high beams, it becomes difficult to drive on that broken road. Hence I was exploring the Bellary-Hospete route. And like you said if going there in the evening would mean peak hour travel between these two cities.

Hospet - Bijapur is a 4 laner, and good. Food/rest options would be limited. Bijapur to Solapur the 4-laning is in progress. I hear one side is completed, and one side you have diversions.

Planning a drive from Bangalore to Pandharpur & Akluj. Any recommended routes.

Google map suggests going via Chitradurga, Hospet, Kushtagi, Vijaypura.

Are there other options?

That is the best route given the current condition of Bangalore-Hubli route. Also, Chitradurga-Hospet-Vijayapura is in good condition that you may only need to bother about Vijayapura to Pandharpur which can be a mixed bag.

Thanks Parag sir. If I take the Bangalore-Hubli option, what would be the route from Hubli. Are there any advantages in this route over the Hospet route.

I have done Bangalore-Goa recently and I thought Chitradurga-Hubli the diversions have reduced considerably, at least while going to Hubli.
