Bijapur - Hospet - Bangalore

Anybody has any idea about Bijapur - Hospet - Bangalore road condition?

Please consider this as urgent.

Three cars are coming down from Bombay to Bangalore starting Saturday (1st Dec).

Please let us know the road condition as it is now and not how it was before monsoon.

Thanks all of you, in advance.

Several bad sections currently reported on NH13 (still not repaired). Unless there is some definitive need to come on the NH4/NH9/NH13/NH4 route, better to stick to NH4 via Kolhapur, Belgaum and Hubli.

Rudra,
Unless there is specific reason to goto Bijapur, Pune->Kolhapur->Belgaum (NH4) route is most recommended.
Regards,
Deepak

Instead of continuing on NH13 from Hospet, it is recommended to take Hospet - bellary - Chillikare - Hiriyur then onto NH4, Hiriyur - Sira - Tumkur - Blr

Road from Bellary to bangalore in this route is excellent condition (well marked as well), zenx did that route last week...Bellary - Hospet road is dusty and potholed but motorable, you can average out 50km/hr in that stretch....

I am not aware of the Bijapur - Hospet stretch.

Abhi

NOTE: If it is just a drive from MUM-BLR then Expressway & NH4 throughout is recommended. It can be done in 15 hours (starting at 3AM) with food breaks.

Departure point: Mumbai

Destination: Bangalore

Looking for best possible roads which will give the cars as well as the drivers chance to enjoy the trip to the fullest.

Longer routes of 50-100 km might not be really a big issue if the route entail great scenery and tarmac (v imp) for the delicate darlings (3 of them)

Route details from B'lore to Hospet

Hi Rudra,

I did a biketrip from B'lore to Hospet in July. Here are the route details:

Bangalore to Hospet 0.0 to 335.6 km

Trip set point: Mekhri Circle, Bangalore
0.0 Mekhri circle. Continue straight on Prof C V Raman Road.
2.0 Traffic light junction. Continue straight.
3.1 Traffic light junction. Turn left onto bridge, following sign indicating Tumkur and Pune (NH 4).
5.9 Road junction. Continue straight.
8.6 Roundabout. Continue straight.
18.5 Road junction. Continue straight towards Tumkur.
20.5 Road junction. Continue stright towards Tumkur. Right goes to Nelamangala.
24.6 Crossroads. Continue straight. Right goes to Nelamangala and left goes to Mangalore.
33.0 Traffic thins out.
46.2 Dobbspet town traffic conjestion. Right goes to Dodballapur.
47.2 Road junction. Continue straight. Right goes to Maddagiri.
55.7 Continue straight past Hirehalli village.
59.9 Fork. Bear left.
62.7 Tumkur fire station on left.
63.4 Fork. Bear right onto bypass. Left goes into Tumkur town.
114.2 Road junction. Continue straight towards Chitradurga. Left goes to Sira bypass (under construction).
117.2 Sira town.
118.0 Road junction. Continue straight. Right goes to Sira court.
156.7 Hiriyur town. Caution - trucks parked on road.
159.3 Road junction. Continue straight for Chitradurga.
196.0 Road checkpost. Truck traffic congestion. Caution.
196.4 Roundabout. Continue straight. Left goes to Chitradurga city and right goes to Challakere.
199.3 Road junction. Turn right towards Sholapur for Hospet on NH 13. Straight goes to Pune.
Four-laning ends. Road is now a two-laner.
Note: A part of the road on NH 13 is broken with uneven shoulders. Take care. You will not be able to maintain the speeds possible on NH 4. Also, villagers put crops onto the roads so that vehicles passing over them may thresh them.
243.0 Roads very bad here.
279.0 Fork. Bear left for Hospet. Right goes to Kudligi.
309.2 Fork. Bear right towards Hospet, Bijapur and Sholapur. Left goes to Harpanahalli, Harihar and Davangere.
311.6 Caution! Unmanned level crossing.
325.1 Manned level crossing.
325.6 Road junction. Tungabhadra Dam and garden on the left. Right goes to Sholapur and Bijapur. Continue on extreme right to Hospet town.
335.6 Hospet town.

My biking friends who went for a ride to Hospet last weekend tell me that the road conditions have not changed dramatically.

I have no idea of the road from Bijapur to Hospet, though

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Rajan

I am not aware of the Bijapur - Hospet stretch.
There is a bad stretch after Bijapur, between Ilkal & Hospet. But a certain stretch after Hospet (Kudligi to Jagalur) is even worse.

If you really want to avoid NH4, then it will be BOM-PNQ-Solapur-Bijapur-Hungund -- turn left towards Mudgal - Gangawati - towards Bellary - Challakere - Hiriyur - Tumkur - BLR.

Actually, if you look at NH4, The road is excellent from BOM - Hubli. Hubli to Davangere, a 150 km stretch has some single side stretches, and the by-pass / incomplete bridges. Once you cross Davangere, you are back in business. If you dont mind taking it easy for that 150km stretch, which is not really a continuous stretch of bad roads -rather there are incomplete stretches - NH4 would make more sense. Rest of the 1000 km journey is actually pleasant with some excellent roads. And what irks you more in that 15% of the route is the constant switching between sides, never allowing you to sit back and floor it.

Rudra / Jaggu, one point you should consider is that Pune-Solapur-Bijapur-Hiriyur is completely a two-lane un-divided highway. While the roads are good, you would be slowed down by on-coming traffic. [After Hiriyur, it is NH-4 again]

OTOH, NH-4 is a 2+2 lane divided highway, except Hubli-Dharwad by-pass, and Hubli-Davangere where the road is incomplete.

You're welcome. Have a safe trip.

If you are taking NH-4, you got Shell bunks inside Hubli & Davangere cities.

Else, you have Reliance pumps all the way, on both routes.
