Traveled couple of days before on this route. Need to enter city in two places Ulundurpet and Samyapuram (diversion board was kept during my return journey, hence have to pass through market). Take care of vehicles coming in opposite direction (wrong side) & in few places they have removed the diversion board inspite of roads being completed (this results in vehicle missing it out & coming in wrong lanes)

I think Surprise missed a 'not' in his post. Go for it, nitrous - if you start now, you can have dinner in Tiruchi - not more than 5 hours on NH45.

In certain places, vehicles were directed to the opposite lane as the left lane was closed with a red tape. After traveling few kms on the opposite side, the divider opens (entry to left side). At that junction, roads on left were well laid, but there is no information whether to continue driving in the opposite side or need to get back to left. At one place I decided to travel on the opposite side, stepped up the gas & was shocked to find few vehicles traveling on the left side i.e I was traveling down on the wrong side

Iam not sure whether there is some manitenance/construction work on regular basis or its being done on temporary basis

Edit: Roads were in good condition & it took 7 hrs 30 min to Madurai from Chennai (driven at moderate speeds)

Mjothi did Chennai - Madurai in about 6 hours a couple of weeks back. The entire stretch is more or less completed except for issues with Byepass as Surprise has listed. It should be comfortable

Yup. but starting time was early morning 3:30am. So, that makes a lot of difference.

Surprise & Mjothi were spot on. There were two diversions from the double road NH. One at Ulundurpet and the other at Samyapuram.
One way trip was 337kms long and I did both onward and return in 4.5 hours flat. Could do 4 hours if not for the diversions.

Thanks a lot, guys.
PS: I'm now enjoying living not too far from Maduravoyal. I don't have to pass a single traffic signal to get on to the GQ or the GST.

Especially with those toll road/Bye pass connecting to GST from maduravoil is simply awesome! Worth every paisa you pay in toll.

Ulundurpet bye pass is also open now. The only bit to be done is between Samayapuram & Trichy. You can cover in 4.5 hours safely (around 100 kmph range) if you drive non stop

Did you travel to and fro in 4.5 hours? What do you drive? An Aeroplane?
