avoid night driving

Hi,

The route is pretty ok but since your going to do your first long drive please avoid night driving and try to maintain a consistant run because you got 5 ppl / some baggage and atleast half tankfull this might increase your FE.

the best & only possible route
bangalore-hosur-krishnagiri-dharmapuri-salem-namakkal
from namakkal bye pass take a left turn into namakkal town-musiri-trichy
bangalore to namakkal is NH-7
from namakkal -trichy is state highway the road goes along river Cauvery
diatance around 350kms.
fill half tank fuel & refill on the way back at trichy.
petrol is Rs.3.50 cheaper in tamil nadu
credit cards accepted & premium fuels available at trichy.
have a jolly trip.
hope this helps

Chennai - Tiruchi is NH45 all the way. 5-6 hours if you're fast. Not sure where you stay in Chennai but if you know the airport road, that is NH45 / GST Road.

Guindy Kathipara Junction - Chennai Airport - Tambaram - Perungalathur - Vandalur - Otteri - Guduvancheri - Kattankolathur - Maraimalai Nagar (Ford factory) - Chengalpattu - Madurantakam - Melmaruvathur - Tindivanam - Vikravandi - Villupuram - Ulundurpettai - Asanur - Veppur - Perambalur - Srirangam - Tiruchi

4 lane GQ style roads from Perungalathur till Tindivanam. Watch out for maniacs on the wrong side.

Tinidivanam onwards is 2 lane unless things have changed. Villupuram is hopeless, esp. the stretch in front of the main busstand. Ulundurpettai has a railway crossing which can take up quite some time. Hotel Tamilnadu at Ulundurpettai is a good place for a halt - good food, clean toilets.

There is also a Hotel Rajesh (run by yesteryear actor Rajesh) but I don't remember where (think its near Ulundurpettai).

Try and start early so that you can break at Ulundurpettai for breakfast and you'll be in Tiruchi for lunch.

Dear All,

I have travelled last weekend to trichy and roads are horrible and not suitable for first time drivers.

I have exactly followed the route given by "Hrag" and following are the experience.

Route after Tindivanam changes to worst and it is sure shot rim breaker. Route till you touch Samayapuram is worst and interior Trichy routes are OK.

Suggest you take an alternate route, which I have taken while coming back to Chennai.

Chennai-Pondy-Cuddalore-Vridhachalam-Pennagaram-Thittakudi-Ariyalur-Samayapuram-Trichy.

In the above route- You can entirely bye pass the bad strecth between Tindivanam till Ariyalur.

Ariyalur till Samayapuram is OK but should be crossed in sun light.

In this route you will cross extra 50 ~ 60 Kms and it is conventional 2 lane roads. But remember, you will encouter very less traffic and route is excellent.

Try it and let me know your feedback.

Hello,

Fuel in Pondicherry is the cheapest in India. A premium petrol costs just Rs.41 only. Plenty of hotels in Pondy, Cuddalore can provide you food with moderate cost.

I am driving on Friday evening to Kerala, alone. I don;t want to go in a single stretch, though have done that before.

Any good hotels on this way, preferably within 4hr drive from Chennai

Hi,
Ideal place to stay after chennai would be Trichy(6 hrs max depending on what time you leave here).Pls try to reach trchy before 10.30pm max as after that the highway is as chocked as Mount Road.
Merry Xmas!

Guys, need to do a trip to trichy today.
How's the route now? Has there been substantial GQ development past Tindivanam?

Except for the Ullundurpet bypass almost all others are done till you enter Tiruchy. So, you need to get into the Ullundurpet town only.

Overall its a very pleasant drive. Enjoy!
