Thanks brother for the recommendation, I did go through SH 121 and SH102 and it was very nice. After SH121 and SH102 and only for few kilometer the road is underconstruction but not much issue to drive on. Apart from that I would say the roads are quite good till Chelavara falls.

I guess you would already have gone and come back but the falls are closed for a month now as couple people died there before we went there. Though we went there but now a guard is posted there who won't let anyone sit there. Its supposedly closed by the DM. But to reach there after you take the turn for the falls the road is bad for 2 kms and then its all concrete.

I did not miss out driving on SH121 it was nice. Thanks for all the help and info.

Went for a honeymoon trip to Coorg and we stayed at Tamara.

I was looking for a place which we both had never been to and Coorg was the final choice. After reading the Coorg threads here, PMs to some members and after going through the TripAdvisor reviews, Tamara was chosen. We did a direct booking for 3N/4D with all meals and availed the early bird offer which turned out to be cheaper than online travel portals. Initially, I was a bit skeptical about Tamara as it was a little away from town and would hence make it a little far from the sightseeing spots. I was also a bit concerned about the approach roads to the resort since I was driving a Polo. But all doubts were laid to rest, the moment we approached the resort entry point. I was driving from Cochin and they had proper signboards from about 25kms which ensured that we didn't take any wrong route. From the main entry gate till the reception area (which is more than a km), the road is properly cemented. Since it is only wide enough for one way traffic, the security guards make sure there's no oncoming vehicle before they let you go. We also made a Plan B for the sightseeing which would save some time and kms. We reached the resort by about 3pm and were welcomed with a drink and after few formalities, proceeded for lunch immediately. Food was very good and they had quite a bit of options to choose from. The chefs and the restaurant staff were very polite and more than willing to make us feel happy.

The property is quite big (we were told it's around 200 acres) and steep at most places, but they have a buggy service to take you around. The cottage was nice and had a wooden theme which I liked. We went for morning trekking and we were accompanied by a guide and another couple. The guide was a nice chap and we were given binoculars and a hiking pole. He was also carrying light refreshments for us which we had along the way. There was a Yoga n Meditation session in the evening. Next day, we visited their coffee blending area which is a small room where they explain the process by each step with some practical lessons for everyone. We are finally served a cup of coffee made using the same powder we just roasted. This session actually starts with a walk through their coffee plantation, but after the second day's trek, the missus was in no mood for another walk. We also used the games room in the evenings. Every building in Tamara is built into the lap of nature and it's a nice place to relax and have a peaceful getaway.

One of the booking clauses was that they were not allowing kids below 12yrs. Although not a concern for me, I realised it's importance after we stayed at another resort in Thekkady few days back. The kids policy is indeed a boon for anyone seeking solitude and tranquility.

We decided to do the sightseeing after a slightly early check out so that we don't need to travel the extra kms from Virajpet to the resort and could move on to Calicut where we decided to stay for the night.

Special mention must be made for their restaurant staff as they packed us some sandwiches, fruits and juices on the day of check out. They were also willing to make us a custom meal or go that little mile extra to make sure we were happy. Overall, it was a very nice experience and we wish we could stay for at least one more day.

Thats good! When I visited, there wasn't any such luxury. We driving up in a Duster encountered the resort's truck and had to find a spot to let pass.

Too bad for all those who already have kids, including me! But they did not stop us from using their restaurant.

Planning a trip with family to Coorg. Looking for suggestions on route ( from Mysuru ) and stay ( in and around Madikere ). Thanks in advance!

Is it known by the same name? Couldn't locate on Gmaps.

And is it a premium property?

Heading over to Coorg in mid June, staying at Serene Woods. I read that the approach road to the place is not good, Is it do able in a Vento? Or Should I look to get a SUV rental may be?

Also keeping in mind Tamara's no kid policy, can I go over to their property for lunch with my 1 year old?

I and a couple of friends are planning on a 24-hour drive (Friday midnight to Saturday midnight). Single vehicle, relaxed drive with multiple stops but no hotel stay. The aim is to enjoy the drive & nature. The route is going to be finalized after suggestions of road conditions from Team-BHPians stupid:
One of the options that came to my mind is the Coorg circuit.



Planned Start Time : Friday midnight
Onward journey : Bangalore - Mysore - Hunsur - Nagarhole (planning to pass in early morning) - Kutta - Gonikoppal - Virajpet- Madikeri
Lunch at Madikeri

Return journey : Madikeri - Somwarpet - Shanivarshanthe - Arakalgud - HoleNarsapur - CR Patna - Kunigal - NICE road
Planned finish time : Saturday midnight

Please advise whether this route is do-able in the rainy season and road condition good enough for a low GC hatchback (swift). Also, I have not driven on Somwarpet - Arakalgud - CR Patna route , so need advise on road condition as we'll cross this stretch during late evening.

Kutta - Gonikoppal is the unknown quantity here since this route is notorious for its potholes and wild animals as well. From Bangalore till Hunsur is fine. Beyond that till Nagarhole and Kutta I am not sure how the roads are. Gonikoppal - Virajpet - Madikeri is fine even on a low GC hatch.

This is a fairly good route and Shanivarsanthe to CR Patna is good State Highways with speed breakers thrown in but you can spot them early on. Only issue on this route is no decent food options till you hit CR Patna at least. If it is all guys outing, you can stock up something and munch on till you reach Swathi Delicacy near Kunigal. Again doable in a low GC hatch no issues. Have done this route in the late evenings (Stretch from Arakalgud to Kunigal and it is not an issue even in the dark).

Stayed in Virajpet over the long Christmas weekend at Sithara Homestay. Overall Experience -Satisfied with the place.

Anyone traveled to Coorg from Bangalore (or from anywhere else) in the last few days or so? How is the situation there now after the floods? How are the road conditions and is it advisable to visit?

We have shortlisted Coorg as one of the destinations during the December vacation. It will be a family trip. Inputs would be of great help please:.

Depends on where you are visiting in the Coorg. The flood were in North Coorg and South was mostly not affected. The roads from Bangalore to Madikeri or Virajpet is good to travel.

Most of the tourist are shying away from Coorg this season and it was visible during Dussera in October. Avoid home stays if you are not sure and book with some reputed resorts.
