gd!
rampur roads will make you count your blessings for owning a safari.
i drove recently to bheem tal and saat tal.
i'll put it this way, if i had been carrying tomatoes i would have ended up with ketchup by the time i hit moradabad.
by the way where are you headed?

Here is the route
Delhi->NH24->Staright to Hapud Bypass (15 Rs Toll):-Bypass end (5 Rs Toll):->Gar Mukteshwar->Straight road to Gazraula->Moradabad Bypass (15 Rs Toll I guess)->Staright to Rampur.
Road condition till Moradabad is pathetic(Though some part of it is ok but still overall is not good), as this highway is becoming 6 Lane, so drive very carefully there. If you see empty roads, don't revvvv, anyone like human being, cows, bailgadi, ghoda ghadi can come on your way from no where.
Once you cross Moradabad Bypass, I think that road is single lane till Rampur.
Drive carefully mate.

Also, Moradabad-Rampur is in very bad state compared to the rest of the route. Also, Delhi-Hapur is pretty goos while Hapur-Gajraula is terrible. Gajraula-Moradabad is not too bad but you have to watch out for diversions.

And with the fog starting to set in, travel at late night & early morning is now not advisable.

Is this the same place which you pass while driving to Corbett? If so, like Iraghava said, fog is a big speed breaker, I did this stretch last month and we had to go really slow in some places early in the morning.
Road conditon is ok but for some stretches before Moradabad which I believe has not been completed for donkey's years now.

3 years to be precise. Finishing date was Sep 2007 but I think they need atleast 1.5 years more to finish.

Will be going in the Scorpio and so will be 3 other Scorps. Am headed to Dudhwa reserve near the Indo-Nepal Border. From Rampur will drive to Pilibhit, Mailana and Dudhwa.

You've had me worried Doc...

Right Suman, not on a North India tour. Have been holed up here only but have been busy. It has been a mad-mad month of sort. Have given myself a vacation from 12th Dec to 12th Jan after a long-long time.

But have planned a tour of sorts. Let me see how it works out. Everybody goes to Corbett, kanha, Ranthambore etc. I decided to go off-beat and will be spending the New Year at Dudhwa. Amazingly very few out here at TBHP have heard of Dudhwa; coz when I posted on the Routes & Travel section for a route to Dudhwa, it drew a total blank..!!

What's the latest input on this road stretch? An early response from all who know will be much appreciated.

Has anyone recently done Delhi - Shahjahanpur stretch? Any inputs?

Thanks in advance..
